These threads make us chuckle.

Mom's 2 doggys before us lived for 17 (big lab mix)/18 (sheltie mix) years and they ate Pedigree and Alpo dog food. They were both very healthy dogs until the end. blue dogblue dogblue dog

We eat Mighty Dog, Beneful Meals and Chicken Soup Dry. Mom has tried all of those foods you guys name and we hate them. The racoons however did enjoy the variety.

My sister and I are very healthy happy dogs with glossy coats. Our blood tests come out perfect.

How many of these expensive great foods were recalled? Purina has never had a recall because of high quality control. They also have a new vet in charge of nutrition and she's been really coming up with some new and better formulas.

How many good foods were recalled? Not many that I can remember...
Most of the grocery store brands with cheaper ingredients? A lot!

If your dog is doing well, then fine. It's just a fact that most dogs are healthier on something of better quality.
All of my dogs are on grain-free foods (I have 2 dogs with allergies...dry skin, ear issues, etc.). Most cheap foods are loaded with grain so I'll pass.

Amber, Purina's quality control isn't that great. They are recalling horse feed now due to unacceptably high level of aflatoxin. Depending on which sites you look at either no animals have gotten ill and it is a preemptive recall or you can read there have been several horses die and many, many more get sick.

Also, they had several canned foods on the recall list.

There will always be recalls whether its the highest quality of food or the lowest, and recalls can be for a lot of reasons but the number one is usually contamination.

Just remember you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.

Not everybody is going to jump on the band wagon. I'm not saying what way I'm going anymore lets just say I have tried a variety of food for them and I will go with the one that ends up being best for them after my research and experience but not everyone is going to go one way or the other. So in my opinion recall isn't the best defense, heck I'm sure band-aids have been recalled at one point or another, but you don't stop using them you give them a chance to fix the problem. I don't know this is just my 2 cents. I'm not saying either way.

In human foods many were contaminated with the mad cow disease remember, well they were recalled, but do we still eat meat?

"They also have a new vet in charge of nutrition and she's been really coming up with some new and better formulas."

I've seen Purina's new formulas, and I'm not impressed. At a vet conference a few weeks ago, I saw a few of their Veterinary Diets. The rep told my friend that rather then find out which animal protein her dog was allergic to, just eliminate them all and feed a vegetarian diet! I managed to keep my mouth shut.

If you want to feed "crap food" then go right ahead.. like someone said earlier "you can bring the horse to the water but it doesn't mean its going to drink", so we are just educating people on a better choice of foods ... if you don't like to be educated then maybe you shouldn't be reading the posts!!!!!silencedsilencedsilencedsilenced:-

Sorry Amber but I feel really sorry your dogs have to eat that. If your kids were picky and only wanted to eat mcdonalds everyday would you too give in?
