to get how much your dog eats a day or dogs take the weight of your dogfood bag and divide it by the number of days it lasts then take that number and divide it by however many dogs you have tell's you how much on avrage each dog eats per day.

Speaking of staph infections while on kibble containing grain...

This is the first year I have gone without a staph infection (I have gotten one every November for the previous three years) - I owe it all to Orijen.

Of course, I'm not a doctor (and don't play one on TV), but who knows if this is the reason...

Works for me!

Lily - Maggie's staph was uncontrollable when on kibble - of any sort grain free or grained. But I realized a I made a mistake - I had been feeding Mags the NV Venison & Millet...it was a little cheaper...so new breakdown (I wish I could edit old posts...I hate making new ones).

$23 = 15#s

1 Day of food = 3/4 # (12 oz)

15# / 3/4# = 20 days in a bag

20 days in a bag = ~2/3 month

vet visit once a month = $60 for meds and visit combo

$60 vet visit / 2/3 = $40 in vet fees per bag

$3/gal X 4 gals. there and back = $12

$23 + $12 + $40 / 20 = $3.75 A DAY

Still pretty spendy though...

Hi Maggie,

I find it intriguing that grain could cause so many problems. It's nice to share experiences with other Dogsters. Lily has been eating Orijen for about a year. Not only does she NOT have staph anymore, but she doesn't suffer the limping she would get periodically after playing roughly (she's had a TPLO on each knee for torn cruciates). I would think that Orijen and the amount of protein would help muscle mass too. At almost 8 years old, she's still a whirlwind of a Newfie gal.

That's awesome Lily!!! I know Maggie did/does have some grain issues...as well as a few environmental allergies.

Dogster really is a great place to learn new things - you just have to sift through all the garbage posts to find what you are looking for sometimes!
