ok here goes

I bought 2 bags because you save on shipping with 2 .

Orijen Adult 29.7lb. bag at $48.99 US.
coupon code ( ORIJEN ) saves 8%

$48.99 a bag x 2 = $97.98

$97.98 - (orijen coupon) $7.84 = $90.14

Shipping $ 19.11 + $90.14 = $109.25

So thats the total $ 109.25 now the break down

$109.25 / 59.4lbs. = $1.84 dollars per pound

I know my dogs eat 9.9oz. per day of grainless dog food so take $1.84 divide that by 16 because there are 16 oz. in a pound then times that by 9.9 and you get the cost of feeding 1 dog per day.

$1.84 / 16 = $.115 cents per ounce

then

$.115 x 9.9 = $ 1.1385 so it costs me $1.14 a day per dog to eat good food.

the way I look at it is here in Indiana a double cheese burger from Mc Donalds with tax costs $1.09 so I figure I can go with out three burgers a day for my kids to get good nutrition.

which in conclusion to by a bag of Bluebuffalo ( Wilderness ) at petsmart at $44.99 for a 26lb. bag + tax was costing me 1.14 per dog per day and personaly I think Orijen is a much better food.

break your own dog food down and see how much you are spending per dog per day feel free to post.

If I only knew how much by weight Sedona eats. I don't though, but that breakdown is awesome. I guess people really do use math in the real world. I should apologize to my high school and college math teachersthinking

Quick question, not pertaining to the breakdown you did (great job though). We've been eating Orijen for a while, and love it (along with raw). I noticed you used coupon code Orijen. Does that always work on heartypet.com, or is it a promotional thing? Nice job again with the breakdown.

as far as I know Coupon code ORIJEN always works. you just put it in when you check out and you get 8% off your total order of any orijen food they carry.

I don't have a breakdown...but since I feed raw I know I am spending close to $1.50 a day average. I don't spend more than $2/# and since Mags eats a # a day I figured that $1.50 is a good average for us.

But on kibble, here I go...

Nature's Variety Turkey/Duck Instinct

$25 = 13.2#s

1 Day of food = 3/4 # (12 oz)

13.2# / 3/4# = 17.6 days in a bag

$25 / 17.6 days = $1.42 per day

Add in driving costs and that raises the total to $2.10 a day!!!! I think I'll stick with raw - I never have to make another trip because I ran out of dog kibble.

Hey, Maggie! You forgot to add in the extra vet visits you had to do on kibble for those staph infections that you don't have to do on RAW.

Oh my Siri!!! I don't know how but I forgot about those!!!! (could be that I am tired and Mags is at the vet getting a dewclaw off).

New breakdown with vet visits added in (I still have all the paperwork so I know the numbers)

$25 = 13.2#s

1 Day of food = 3/4 # (12 oz)

13.2# / 3/4# = 17.6 days in a bag

17.6 days in a bag = ~1/2 month

vet visit once a month = $60 for meds and visit combo

$3/gal X 4 gals. there and back = $12

$25 + $12 + $30 / 17.6 = $3.81 a DAY

How loving monkey father of potatoes!!!! That is a ton on $$$! Glad I switched!
