Human: Come in!- Sticky: BARK- BARK BARK B

The never-ending battle at my house is over my food. I am a papillon who
would like to eat it -- one tiny morsel at a time, over the course of
several hours or days -- but so would Otto, the Labrador retriever. Whenever I leave the kitchen to go bark at someone at the window or to rat at one of
the children still in bed, Otto LEAPS for my food, inhales the entire
one-third cup in an instant and then looks guilty. The humans put the food under a
stool to try to keep him away. Yesterday, he got the stool stuck on his head
like a dunce cap and started bashing around the kitchen in horror.

Any suggestions?

my first suggestion would be to get the video camera out so you can record the dunce bashing around the kitchen.

can you keep the lab occupied while the little one is eating? like a game of fetch? or you could always stand there and keep him away from the little one.

You might want to pick up your Papillons' food after an hour if you can. Soon your Papillon will figure out that if I don't eat it now, I'm not eating at all!

Maybe you should seperate the two for eating. If the liitel guy doesnt finish, take the food away so he will learn that he needs to eat when its meal time.

I had the same problem w/ my Papillon after I rescued my pitbull (aka a garbage disposal) lol! She would eat hers and then push him out of the way and inhale his 1/4 cup before I could blink.

The only way I could solve this was putting both of their food down when I wanted them to eat. I put a little canned food in with the dry to entice him to start eating immediately. I would leave it down for 15ish minutes (or however long I could stay in the room to supervise) and then pick it up. For the first few days Wolfie didn't eat much, but after the 2-3ish day he began eating his food all at once. It was kind of nice seeing him excited about food for once in his life! laugh out loud

LOLOLOL!!!! Stool on the head!
We have a bit of a problem with this since Yvie is a grazer and depending on what's for dinner George may partake of her meal.
I find if I stand there while they're eating, Yvie will finish in one sitting. Also if I feed them something extra delectable (innova evo or NV raw medallions especially) she loves it so much that she will eat it all at once.

BOL!!!!BOL,BOL!big laugh

*wipes away tears of laughter*

Videotape it so we can watch it!Bol.......

But I would pick up the little one's food after an hour or so. That is how our dachshund knew we weren't playing around at mealtime.

Both my dogs try to pig out on each other's food, but it aint a happenin'.

Since I feed Firefly SG Barking at the Moon, and Rose Just a Wee Bit, they'll get sick from eating each other's food. Rose will get MONSTROUS farts and Fly will have the never ending diareaha.

So I feed them at the same time and the first one to get done gets to chew on a bullystick so the temptation will be settled!

Just keep the Biggin' busy...Or just put another stool on his head, BOL! Sorry, but that is SOOOOO FUNEY!!!!!!!!!!!!big laugh

Hi: Thanks for the suggestions, but as I am a little, finicky dog, I only can eat one piece of pet food per hour. Ideally I would like the bowl of food to sit there, undisturbed, for the entire day so I could caper past it every now and then to get a piece. Otherwise I barely eat and my owners think I am too skinny.

Like the stool idea, perhaps you could devise something that only Sticky could get into (or just small enough for Otto to not be able to get through). Maybe some sort of a small doggy door to a room where her food could go, or you could build a big box with a small hole. This way, the little princess can continue to get her one little kibble at a time.
Let's get creative here! dancing
