I have been feeding my pugs Nutro Lamb and Rice mixed with the canned Nutro that has been recalled. My guys have been getting 2 tablespoons wiht each meal. I am a nervous wreck right now. I know it has to be bad for them to pull all of that food off the shelves.

I am so mad!! I researched and felt really good about Nutro.

I went out and bought California Natural dry and canned. I am still putting some dry Nutro in their food, but the cans are going back to the store.

My guys are acting fine, playing and eating. I'm calling the vet tomorrow and will at the least take them in early (like this week) for their heartworm test, and have them pull an extra vial for a blood panel.

I'm praying that my ignorance about the Nutro production facilities does not cost my babies their health or their lives since I have been feeding them the recalled food every single day.

Hi Pooh Bear,

The FDA press release about the recalled Purina Mighty Dog pouches (not canned food) is here.

So far, anyway, Purina is only recalling the 5.3 ounce Mighty Dog brand pouch products.

Everyone can keep on eye on the FDA Recall Alerts page to see when new stuff is recalled.

I posted these links on page 3, but I'll post them again since I'm sure some of the pups just coming to the thread haven't seen them:

------

Here's all the links in one place (at least, the ones that have been recalled so far):

Menu Foods Recall (includes many different brands, so be sure to check the list):

This is h0rrible! I was out of town and I had no idea all this stuffed happened! I heard nothing on the news whatsoever. Penny eats Natural Balance, but I do have some Mighty Dog canned food as asll was the Nutro Choice pouches that I mix with her kibble from time to time. From the website, the pouches are definitely on the list. I don't think the cans are on the list, yet....

So, should I throw them out? Or take them to where I bought them and demand a refund even though I don't have the receipts anymore?

Penny, you'll want to return them. And I'd bring a list of the recalled foods with you, just in case the store you bought the food from is unaware of the recall.

If you ate the recalled food, I would get a checkup at the vet. Even if you're acting fine, you could still be sick, just not showing any symptoms yet.

I am a little upset right now, i lost my Angel on the 2nd of March, She started having seizures and after 5 days she just was not getting better. The vet ask me if anything in her diet had changed. I feed all of my dogs Natural Choice organic kibble (which is not on the list) , but Angel did not have many teeth and i would give her the mighty dog , iams or pet pride canned mixed with the kibble. We tested her kidney function the first day she got sick and she was fine then but we do not know how it was after 5 days when we had to put her to sleep, we could not get her better or get her to eat. God i hope that did not contribute to her death, I do believe she had something neuroligical going on but it was so sudden and she got so sick . I am going to call my vet tomarrow to see what they say. Even if it did contribute and they compensated the people for their loss it would never replace the pets people have lost. This makes me mad.

You're right about the Nutro canned not beign on the Menu website list, but if you go to the Nutro website they are recalling all of their pouches and canned food. My pet store still had it on the shelf when I went in to buy the California Natural. I talked to the mangager and she had pulled the Iams and Euk. only because at that time that was the only thing she had been told to pull by her supervisors. She was pretty upset when I told her about all the other brands.

I'm sure the vets offices will have the phones ringing off the hook this morning. My guys are acting fine, so I am going to get them in for a check up and blood panel this week once the panic settles down. if they were showing any symptoms they would have gone the emergency vet this weekend.

I find it very irritating that Menu food is not listing the name of the "national" brands, like Iams, Eukenuba and Purina on their website, but only the regional "store" brands. People are going to the Menu site and thinking that their foods aren't on the list.

The higher cost National brands don't want people to figure out that their higher priced pet food is being churned out by the same factory making these "bargain" brands, and in many cases it is the same food!

Mighy Dog or Ol' Roy? The only difference may be the packaging.

Visit my website for a comprehensive list of ALL the foods involved in the recall.

Also on the website are links for REPORTING your pets illness or death due to recalled food. Even if you're not sure, but suspect the food was the cause, PLEASE REPORT this!

Menu foods is listing all major brands as well, Eukanuba, Iams, Hill, etc.

Last news I was able to find was:

"The company said food made from Dec. 3 to March 6 could be tainted. During that period, Menu Foods began using wheat gluten from a new supplier. The company since has stopped using the supplier"

I need to get my guys new kibble today, and in my mind is only one thing: "what if tomorrow they recall kibble too?"

I was thinking to get a brand I know for sure has their own factory. Might just look on all bags and find one that says "manufactured by" and not only "distributed by". Better have my babies eat a lower quality food for a couple weeks, that I can supplement with home-made, than risk them get sick. I hope to be able to get them used to total home-made to avoid these things in the future.
