I got through to Menu Foods (after two hours) last night only to speak with a woman that said "Im sorry I don't know anything, all I can do is take your name, address, telephone and a number from one of the packets and leave a message for someone to call you". So sad - yet very predictable.

I get through to a vet line to ask for symptoms (Cujo has not been wating to eat lately and vomitted twice on Friday and had not eatten. (He was sleeping and woke up to vomit). I didn't think anything at first becaues he goes through these 'growth spurts'... but after learning that the food has been distributed between December and March... that my local stores are all stores that had contaminated lots.... I started adding up the number of packets he has eatten during the last montha nd a half and needless tosay - I have not slept a wink. I am so pissed off.

I am no longer going to be feeding 'commercial' food -= wer - semi - dry - anything. Today I am going to a natural pet food store and doing what I set out to do a few months back and start Cujo on a natural diet and hoslitic diet. I rather spend a little more on the food that goes in my lil'guy's mouth. I am hoping though that he will have no affects of eatting that food.

I left a message with my vet, and knowing them theyw ill not call back right away so I will call them tomorrow. I will get his blood work done to be safe. Regardless of what the vet says.

Sorry to go on. So angry.

Please note: Check the link that Lucy posted earlier. The lists that have been posted do not include the recalls for Iams, Eukanuba and Science Diet. Thanks Lucy!

I am sorry Cujo, I hope your little guy is alright. I agree with you though....I just found out the IAMS pouches I was feeding Wolfie and my cat, Tigger were of the "affected" bunch. Luckily neither of them have exhibited any symptoms but I still threw out the rest of the boxes.

I sympathize with you because I have been "meaning" to switch them both over to a holistic canned food since they are already on a holistic dry food. I just kept getting lazy and getting the pouches for convienience. *sigh* I am going out to the pet store today and buying some Innova cans.

Would it be possible to get information regarding the recall on this website without all of the 'If you purchase this food, you are contributing to the neglect and abuse of animals' and 'you shouldn't feed your dog this food anyway because it is not good food' and the rest? Honestly, I do not appreciate being told I am evil because I feed my dogs Eukanuba, and I am so sick of being preached to on these forums!

There is a pretty good chance that the companies you buy your food from do some questionable things, as well...there isn't a company out there who doesn't have skeletons in their closet if you look hard enough...and where does PETA get off telling everyone that these companies are cruel to animals when they are caught killing dogs and cats and throwing them in dumpsters!

I'm sorry, I had to vent...I just get so tired of all of the negative attitudes on these forums...people are worried about the health of their dogs because of this recall, and there are people on this post telling them they are bad for purchasing from these companies in the first place...why not tell them their dog deserves to die because they fed them this food!

Hi Mina,

We are sorry you are feeling attacked by posters, nutrition and food has and always will remain a controversial subject. I am sure no one is trying to insult anyone, they are trying to help. Hugs to you hug

I notice a lot of people have mentioned they are throwing the food away. I would suggest you return it to the store - the company has your money, and they should refund it! The impact of the recall on the company will not be nearly as bad if they are not made to repay the consumers that trusted them, and hopefully if it costs them enough they will employ more rigorous testing prior to releasing product - and merchants may do more homework prior to selecting a vendor to produce their private label product. I would also suggest saving your veterinary records if you see the vet due to your concerns about the recalled food, and have your vet make note that this was the sole reason for your visit, you may be able to be reimbursed for the care.

We hope everydog and cat that has been eating these foods is okay.

I said something earlier in this thread that I thought beared repeating, especially in light of Mina's post:

"Just to add a little balance to the thread:

The bad wheat that is the reason for the recall is not necessarily a function of the quality of the food it went into. Even those that feed higher-quality foods sometimes find a bad bag that makes their dogs ill. I see it at the pet supply store that I work at. Someone in the forums recently had this happen to them.

Please remember that some of your fellow Dogsters feed these foods; let's all try to make them feel welcome."

Also, regarding calling the company: remember that these folks are being positively inundated with calls from panicked/angry owners who are dying to know if their dog or cat is OK. The people that are receiving these calls probably work in a call center and only have access to very basic information - they do not make the food, know the people that make the food, and probably have never seen the plant where the food is made. It is entirely possible that your calls are going to a completely different state. Furthermore, they are not vets - they don't know whether your pet's symptoms are indicative of any type of poisoning.

When your job changes so suddenly and drastically, sometimes the only thing a company can advise you to do in the face of a massive influx of calls is to take a message.

Please be nice.

Well, I went through the posts and didn't see anyone say that anyone was bad for feeding these foods. It sounded more like they were statinng their own choices for their pets. Mom learned a lot about dog food from other dogsters and if they hadn't said certain fooods were better then others I'd be in less better shape then I am now and I thank those more aggressive opinions for that.

Cujo - can you contact an emergency vet? I take it your vet isn't returning calls because it's Sunday and there are places (unless you're out in the boonies) open 24 hrs. I'd assume they answer calls, though who knows nowadays...

Seems like one needs to be fluent in computerese to use the phone because a human answering it is such a rare commodity.

I remember you having issues with your vet a long time ago and hope you've secured a new one a little more receptive to working with you.

Mine!

Barked: Sun Mar 18, '07 11:45am PST
i just found this out this afternoon- worked all weekend.
My bulldog Paulie has been eating a little wet Nutro natural choice for lunch- the bar codes are the same as recalled- since tuesday, i did notice a little vomit just the other day but i figured our new puppy may be forcing him to eat faster so i overlooked it. I'm furious- especially since i hate feeding him any wet ( my b/f wanted to give him variety) He has been thirsty- and his stool was a little loose towards the end of the walk. He has been playing with his new sister Macy and has been a little sleepy but it could be the excitement of having a puppy around. I'm worried sick- and i'll be keeping a close eye on him today- bright and early tomorrow he'll be going to the vet.

As for new food- I've heard Royal Canin is pretty good- since it is breed specific. Neither Paulie nor I didn't choose Nutro- it chose us. It was the only food that didn't upset his sensitive stomach. We started off with Wellness but the richness didn't agree with him. Any other new food suggestions for my bulldog, taking into consideration his sensitivity. GRRRRR

I feel for you Cujo- prayers for all of us

shock Now some cans of Mighty Dog are on the list.......everyone
needs to look for the list to get bigger...........just a warning.
The only foods that seem safe are the high end premium foods.....
what does THAT tell us??
The news says Science Diet and a friend who works at Petsmart
says they got recalls on Science Diet, yet it is NOT yet on the company's recall list.
You know that this is serious, and probably worse than they are
letting on, for them to pull all the volumes of food they have....
and not to be able to find the cause??? Please! They're hiding it!
Never give these profiteering companies the benefit of your
doubts!
