My Auntie just called my Mommy to tell her about the food recall. I don't eat any wet food just dry. However it is Nutro Natural Choice. I have been my usual self with no problems. Plus my Mommy buys the jumbo bags and I have had the bag for 3-4 months.

I feel bad for all those doggies out there who are sick or have passed. cry

I've put together a webpage that consolidates all the different press releases, food lists, etc. for the recall and will keep it updated as new info develops.

I have some of the tins that are involved in the recall. I normally only eat Nutro kibble but when I got sick in January the vet told my Mommy to feed me tinned food. Mommy has been buying different makes and I have not been eating much of it and have been holding out for my kibble. I have four tins of Iams of which two are involved in the recall. I have three tins of Presidents Choice and from what we have read only the pouches are involved. I also have one pouch of Priority and it isn't the date that is involved. Since I have refused to eat this food we had it in a bag to go to a No Kill Shelter by our house. We are going to throw the tins out that are part of the recall but don't know what to do with the others. My Mommy wouldn't feel comfortable feeding it to us so she also feels uncomfortable giving it to the Shelter. Any opinions as to what we should do with the tins that are not listed in the recall but are the same make???? shrug Is my Mommy being too paronoid about the whole thing?

This is precisely why I don't feed any of my dogs brands sold at Petsmart, Petco, or other very commercial brands.

I feed my dogs Canidae, which is all-natural and not available en masse at your local pet store. So far, it has not been involved in any recalls.

The SAME thing has happened with other commercial dog food brands. Check this out:

1. Recall of Diamond Pet Foods
http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2005-12-30-dog-food_x.htm

2 . http://otscweb.tamu.edu/dogfood.htm

3. USDA Report on Pet Foods
http://www.fda.gov/cvm/petfoods.htm

It is absolutely appaling what these pet food companies use and get away with in their ingredients!

Please spread the word to all dog and cat owners, about the dangers of these dog foods! It's important that we share this information as devoted animal loverssmile

Be on the look out for pet food companies to issue public statements stating that their "other" products are A-OK. Take their statements at face value, as they are merely trying to save face AND sales!

I haven't had time to read all the posts so please accept my apologies if this has already been asked and answered. Has anyone heard whether any of the Pedigree brands have been affected? Also what about Cesar?

Our sympathies go out to those who were lost.

Hi Bonnie,

This is an article on what is really in pet food. It describes how there have been several recalls of pet food in recent years:
http://home.gci.net/~divs/nutrition/pet_food1.html

Pedigr ee was involved in a pet food recall several years ago which left hundreds of dogs dead. The dry food was the culprit.

Though they claim to have gotten rid of these bad ingredients, how much can you really trust a company's statements without any proof?

Just to add a little balance to the thread:

The bad wheat that is the reason for the recall is not necessarily a function of the quality of the food it went into. Even those that feed higher-quality foods sometimes find a bad bag that makes their dogs ill. I see it at the pet supply store that I work at. Someone in the forums recently had this happen to them.

Please remember that some of your fellow Dogsters feed these foods; let's all try to make them feel welcome.

Thanks everyone for the information. We normally feed Provo Innova EVO RM but his tummy is actin gup and wouldn't you know it but we have him on the Eukanuba Vetrinary Diet canned food. When we went to check the Eukanuba site, it was down for maintenance (how convenient). Anyhow, we were able to see our food is not part of the recall because of everyone's posts. Thanks!
