Hi sweet Fenway. Let me double check = almost positive that the recall is only on the canned food varieties - be back in a flash!

The recall only applies to wet food; the dry food is unaffected and is therefore safe to feed to your pet.

Thanks Storm - you beat me to it!

Oh my goodness Kiss Me - how horrible! I am sooooo sorry. Such a tragedy that something that was supposed to be meant as a special treat ended up that way. My heart is breaking for you and your family. Be sure to get a copy of the chart page from your vet for that day - if you metioned the food to the vet and they notated it - you need to send it to the company .......... hug

My son, who works in pet nutrition said he heard today that Iams canned foods, both cat and dog, were recalled. He never recommmends this brand or any other brand that has been recalled but was alittle surprised when Iams was also recalled. Proctor & Gamble owns Iams so I'm personally not surprised.
Anyone else hear anymore? I have not heard anything from the drive by media, not a big surprise though. It will be covered up because of the corps who own these food companies, that really irritates me.

Nakita, it's not just Iams either...also Science Diet and Purina (not all canned food, just some). Plus all of the Menu Food brands, which include some that I know Dogsters here feed (Nutro and Authority, for example). I posted links to all the recalls that have happened so far on page 3.

Isn't that just frightening??? I don't feed any of those brands and never would, never have. But I do have friends that do feed Nutro, Iams, Science diet etc, so I need to call them and let them know, I am sure they don't check stuff like this if it has not been anounced on the news.
One local huge rescue organization is funded with foods from Iams, I wonder if they heard anything?
I still have not heard anything at all, my son was notified on his way to work today, but like I said he doesn't work with any of the foods listed. Thank goodness.
I tried to call the phone # and it is constantly busy. Big surprise there. (I'm being sarcastic)

Just a note for those who shop at smaller, privately-owned pet food stores:

You may want to call your local store to let them know that this is ocurring - or, better yet, print out the spreadsheets provided by the various companies and bring them in. The store that I work at sells the Nutro Max/Nat.Choice/Complete Care wet foods, but they hadn't been officially notified by anyone when I called this morning to make sure that they had the list. My boss had heard about the recall on the news but didn't realize that it included some of the higher-end foods that we carry.

I'm sure that the owners of the stores you frequent will be very grateful for the information!

ETA: You may want to make sure that your vet is aware of the Science Diet recalls, too.

All you pups who don't have excel, look at Fudge's post on PAGE 3 of this thread. Those product recall lists are normal web pages, not spreadsheets.

Oh yeah...thanks Fudge.

It appears it's the wet food, not dry. So I'm okay. But my Mom's a little leary about feeding me the dry. You just never know, you know?

How scarey.
