Rylie & Mila -

Yes, I did see on the Wellness website that they are not affected by this recall, however that does not necessarily mean that none of their food is manufactured by Menu Foods.

Lucy had mentioned that she found out that their food is in fact manufactured by them. If so, I would like to know where the information came from since it isn't anywhere on their website nor anywhere that I can find on the internet.

I feed Wellness to my dogs now. I do not want to support such a huge commercial manufacturer of mediocre food and poor quality control of their ingredients if Wellness truly has food produced by them.

Wellness is made by Old Mother Hubbard. I haven't heard anything about them outsourcing to Menu Foods yet.

I really hope that people will stop supporting these brands that do use Menu Foods, though...

Winston has been showing signs of possible kidney problems--excessive urination, excessive water intake, and uncontrolled urination. Kidney levels are high, but still within normal, but his urine gravity is not good. He is staying at the vet, on IV fluids, in an attempt to flush his kidneys and regain normal function. Winston only ate canned Nutro Ultra Weight Management and Senior. Please keep him, and the other kitties and pups, in your thoughts and prayers. hug

I am glad to be reading this thread! I have been posting on about 8 different bird boards under Other Pets with the info I have found-mostly brand lists and other negative stuff. We need to be finding quality pet foods that are safe. I am home cooking for both my dog and 2 cats. Annie has food allergies so I have been mainly cooking for her the last month even though she had been on Natural Balance Duck & Potato kibble and cans for the last year. Suddenly, she is itching like crazy from food and airborne allergies. Home cooking brown rice and organic chix, fish, turkey, etc has solved this problem, at the moment. But my cats were on Purina and Fancy Feast so now I'm cooking for them too!

I have a feeling that this is just the tip of the iceberg. People who have lost their pets recently are already trying to find attorneys for class-action law suits. I don't trust any of the foods produced by Menu Foods right now.

This really freaks me out. Maggie is on Authority - DRY FOOD..She's been on the same bag since like October, and she's still here, so I'm guessing its ok, but we have another bag waiting to be opened...Should I bring it back JUST INCASE? I bought within the last two months. I know its dry kibble, but you never know.

HI everybody. Sorry it took a couple of days to write. Cujo became very ill yesterday and I was at the vet hospital all afternoon/evening. They have been inundated with clients wanting blood and urine work. It was so sad.

Well just to fill you guys in on what's going on (and thank you for all your PM's - it was very touching!) I had stopped Eukanuba puches and set appointment for blood work. I started Cujo on Natural diet with cookied chicken, veggies, etc but he still was not feeling well. My dog walker called me at work later in the day yesterday and said Cujo was in bad shape so I got in touch with the vet and he scared the POOP out of me that I ran home and rushed Cujo to the hpspital.
The vet said "Bring him in NOW". I told him I was at work and could make it bac k to CT in an hour he said "NOW". Then said "Listen Theresa, honestly we do not know what is going on. We don't even know what to test for. We are trying to find out from thes companies what the issue is and to be frank most of our clients eat the same brands as Cujo and their food was also found to be in the same lots as Cujo. I want you to stop feeding him the food." I toild him I did and only left some dry out. He told me to "STOP THE DRY AS WELL." And indicated that no one knows what the situiation is and better to be safe - needless to say Eukanuba dry is also in the garbage. He scared me so bad that I was crying the whole train ride back to CT from NYC.

I get to the vet and he told me that they would do testing but recommended that I bring him in again for 6 month check up depdnding if results came clear as he had already consumed so much of the food. Hours later I finally get to bring him home and the good news was that the kidney numbers looked ok and the vet said he didnt feel that Cujo showed adverse affects from food but needed to be retested in a few months to be sure. The bad news was that the outcome has been really bad vomiting and diarreah (usually in the beginning) and they gave him shots. He is now on two medications for two weeks and on Prescription diet food.

At first I was anti- this, but the vet said that the reason this requires presc is because it is actual rice/corn /chicken mixture and not good for long periods of time because it is not neccessarily processed (did you guys ever hear that? Also Hills makes it too but apparently not the same type of food like reg dog food?). He makes me mix one of his supplment tablets in it so he gets nutrients. I did tell vet I would never go back to commercial processed food after this eperience and esp how vounerable we all are, including them, not knowing what is going on. The vet actually tells me that I should not take him off and was anti a natural diet. I found that odd. But I am not changing my mind. I will slowly introduce it to him as I wean him off ID food.

Cujo's appetite is doing better , he ate a little bit of food. He stopped vomitting but he lost 2 lbs. He still drinks excessivly and urinates like crazy. I need to watch that too. He started playing more again ... and not to sound too TMI... but his poop is finally normal after DAYS. Anyway... sorry for thelong email but wanted to telet you know.

Also for those that are worried - I think its a good idea to get testing just to be sure if you can. For sanity reasons. I cant tell you how relieved I was that they felt he was OK minus the higher white cell count. It made me SLEEP after two days of not worrying sick that I hurt him. Again, I thought that because I am only human and love him so much. I know now that it is not my fault andfrom now on if he is trying to tell me omething I know to listen to him!

Thanks for all your support.
-Theresa & Cujo

"Our sweet- Angel' RIP- 3/2/07

Adopt an older- dog, We make- great pets

I posted this in Dog health but i thought i would post it here too
Our vets told us to call the FDA to report Angel's death. We think the cause of death now was the food. She had been eating it for 5 months and started getting a little better when we started her on antibiotics and iv's. When she ate the food again it is when she got worse. it was horrible. The seizures are now believed to have been convulsions. When i talked to the lady today she said they were taking it very serious and have had reports of over 1000 deaths related to the food. She said that Angel had all the symtoms that the other owners said their pets had. She said Angel's weight and age could have played part in her rapid decline. She also said the 10 that they reported were lab animals. It was 10 out of 60 animals, that is 20%, scary. They knew back as far as December. If your dog is sick or has died you need to call the FDA i am going to list their numbers for everyone.

This is all so scary. I only eat Purina ONE dry lamb and rice food. I used to eat Science Diet dry food. My mommy keeps checking the websites, though, just in case more brands are recalled. I don't have any of the symptoms mentioned by owners and puppies in the forums, though, nad I've never eaten wet food. Only one Purina brand was recalled (Mighty Dog pouches), but it scares me that more may be as more information becomes available. It is also scary that they kept mums on the information for so many months.

Cujo,

We are with you on the processed food. My vet said it's ok to cook but get a good cookbook for dogs. The problem is, they need more minerals and the cookbook explains it. I have had Roxie on it since Thursday and she has perked up. She even wanted to play today. Cujo did the same thing Rox did. She had a dry bed today, only leaked once today, so she is getting better. I just hope it stays that way. They are going to check Roxie in 14 days. Do another round of labs. Just to make sure. Good luck to you. I am so happy Cujo is better.
