The vet can do a urine sample i believe to tell if anything is wrong. I would check to make sure if you are worried. I wish i would have fed Angel like i do my other ones, They eat Natural Balance, it is not much higher than iams. I fed her the soft with the watered down kibble because of her teeth. Natural balance does not have the additives other foods have, it comes in a lot of varieties, logs and cans. The logs i cut up as treats for mine, it actually smells really good. There are other good foods some other pets can tell you about too. Some other pets on here are on home cooked diets, there are some good forums for treat and food making.

I eat Timberwolf Organics and really like them and their company.

I feel that this can happen to any company at any time. It makes me nervous about my dog food, as well.

I'm wishing the best for everyone. hughughug

Just found out today the WELLNESS and NATURE'S VARIETY are made by Menu Foods. Although not among the recalled brands, I would hesitate to feed my pets ANY food that Menu Foods has touched.

As far as I can determine, the following companies do not contract with Menu Foods:

Natural Balance (sold at Petco), Castor & Pollux (Organix & Natural Ultramix labels, sold at Petco and Whole Foods), Wysong, Solid Gold (sold at most Petcos), Newman's Own, Innova, Avoderm (Breeder's Choice)...

It is interesting to note that most these websites have on them the following statement:

_____ (insert company name) is NOT involved in (or affected by) the recall by Menu Foods.

This is the same thing Wellness' and Old Mother Hubbard's (parent company of Wellness) say, which makes me question if some of these other companies in fact do have food products made by Menu Foods, but because those particular products are not "involved in" the recall, the companies feel no obligation to disclose that the contract with Menu Foods for all or some of their foods. I mean, if Menu Foods DID NOT make any of your company's foods, wouldn't you want to exploit that right now by telling all the world this?

Perhaps some fellow dogsters can volunteer to help me in emailing or calling some of these "unaffected" companies and asking them if Menu Foods does or does not manufacture all or some of their product line, and then report back to this thread (or start a new one) with the response these companies give.

Anyone game?

I'll contact Timberwolf Organics. However, their website is down right now. I can get their phone number when I get home.

Please add Blue Buffalo to the list of foods not made by Menu Foods (at least as far as we know) Blue Buffalo for cats and dogs is available at PetSmarts nationwide.

Also, here's a link to a pdf file of Whole Dog Journal's top foods for 2007. The document contains info on several of the best dog foods, including their phone numbers and websites. The only food on this document I know for sure that IS made by Menu Foods is Wellness. All the others are subject to suspicion until we can find out otherwise.

Called Castor & Pollux. They admitted their food is MADE BY MENU FOODS, but explained that because their formulations don't include wheat gluten, their food is safe.

HELLLOOOOO!!! The FDA HAS NOT conclusively determined that wheat gluten is the problem, and until they do, ANY FOOD made by Menu Foods is suspect (in my opinion.)
