OMD you know what's scary in that MSNBC article?

"“We’re trying to find out whether or not that company may have supplied other companies,” Sundlof said. "

I think I'll make a big pot of chicken, rice and carrots for my guys until they figure it out . What if the kibbles are tainted too?

*panic slowly making its way in*

It makes you wonder what all of us put in our bodies. Our childhood dog who was a toy poodle lived 19 years. She never ate a piece of dog food in her life. She ate what we did. That was in the 70's and 80's. She wasn't overweight and lived a long healthy life. The way they even package human food too anymore, you hear about so many people with gluten allergies. I don't know makes me think we all need to take a look at what we eat more.

This whole thing is so scary. Our deepest sympathies go out to those of you who's pups have passed or are sick. I have never fed Mia nor the other dogs wet food...but that is 99% because I can't stand the smell of wet food puppy breath. There are only reports of 10 dogs/cats that died...but I suspect there are many many more. Willow and Toby who both passed away last year ate Purina for most of their lives. I just recently got my mother to switch Emma and Kiba off of Purina. Mia used to eat Science Diet when I first got her because the vet sold it and I trusted the vet.

While this recall is very sad I think it is opening a lot of people's eyes to what is put into some of these dog foods. A friend of mine sent me an instant message absolutely APPALLED by what he had found out about some of these foods. We chatted for a bit and I told him about the research I had done when deciding what to feed Mia and he couldn't believe some of the stuff. His golden retriever now eats home cooked and will never eat processed food again.

I pet sat for 4 dachsunds over Thanksgiving and they all ate the Ol' Roy Pouches...I need to call them and make sure they are okay and know about the recall.

Well enough rambling...again we are sincerely sorry for anyone who's pets are sick or have passed on.

I guess there is always the possibility the kibble could be affected too. I would suggest looking into foods that do not use wheat gluten, corn gluten or soy as these are the usual culprits of aflatoxin poisoning, and it has happened before in pet foods. Pet foods with pet quality ingredients get the stuff that's rejected for human consumption, so it is much more likely to have these kind of issues. The natural and holistic pet foods don't use wheat, corn or soy because they are considered to be fillers. Plus their ingredients are generally human grade too. So they're always an option to look into if you're worried about this sort of thing happening again. I'm sorry for everyone who had to go through this and I hope everything turns out OK. I would be worried sick for my little guys!

Oh, that makes me sooo mad! If they knew about it a month ago, they could have told us earlier. Look at those poor dogs and cats that have died since then. I expect the numbers are higher than ten. (fuming!!!) Oh! I am so mad!

thank you to all for sharing your experiences, research, and thoughts. I'm looking into Royal Canin- my vet reccommended it, does anyone know if there are any "fillers" in that- i can't seem to get the info online about what is in thier product. I have a bulldog with an extremely sensitive digestive track and figured a food that is breed specific might better suit his needs. Thanks for your help in advance.

Most Royal Canin formulas contain corn. It is an okay food but we found that we can feed a better food (IMO) that is cheaper. Used to feed Mia Royal Canin Chi, but we switched to Solid Gold Wee Bit and are saving about $15 a bag!

All my friends and family have been calling me today thinking that is what happened to Angel. We are so upset. Because i would not have continued to feed her that once she got sick if we would have known. Nothing they could do would ever help me losing her and seeing her so sick.

Menu Foods knew their food was making pets ill THREE MONTHS AGO--not just one month ago. According to The Canadian Press, Menu Foods began receiving phone calls from pet owners way back in December but ignored them completely. They only acted AFTER one of their major U.S. contract customers initiated their own recall and put all future orders of Menu Foods on hold. What's even more infuriating, is that Menu Foods told the FDA and the U.S. media that they didn't receive their first complaint of illness until FEBRUARY 20th -- a complete contradiction to what has been reported in the Canadian media. It appears Menu Foods lied to the FDA in order to hide the fact that they completely blew off all the U.S. dog and cat owners who called their "hotline" as far back as December 2006.
