BOL Spider...I just had to look up at the topic because I couldn't remember what thread I was reading. So here I go to further take the subject off course...

It does concern me a bit about what vet techs do during surgeries. Its not that I don't trust them, its just that they don't have as much experience as a vet in a lot of cases. Since I'm so small, my mom was advised to make sure it was the vet, rather than the vet tech, who put the tube down my throat when they were putting me under because my trachea can be so easily injured. Aside from that, I do have a lot of confidence in the vet techs at my previous vet.

As for Science Diet, my vet carried it in his office, but never once recommended it to us. He told us that it looks like whatever I am eating was working fine for me. The only thing he ever said about food was to eat high quality food if I can afford it. My vet was more concerned about his patients who didn't eat at all, which is why my mom did so much of her own research on dog food.

I love my old vet (I moved now so he's not my vet anymore).

HEY GUYS,
I'M NOT SHOUTING JUST LIKE UPPER CASE. I HAVE BEEN EATING WALMART DOG FOOD ALL MY LIFE. "OL ROY" WAS NAMED AFTER SAM WALTON'S (MR. WALMART) FAVORITE BIRD DOG. I AM OLD FOR A DALMATION AND AM IN EXCELLENT HEALTH FOR AN OLD COOT.
MY OWNER THINKS THAT EXERCISE AND FRESH AIR ARE JUST AS IMPORTANT AS NUTRITION.
I ALSO GET A LITTLE DOSE OF A VITAMIN/MINERAL SUPPLIMENT WITH MY FOOD OCCASIONALLY.
A FIFTY POUND BAG OF "OL ROY" COSTS ABOUT 12 DOLLARS. MY OWNER SAID HE WISHES HE COULD BUY 5O POUNDS OF HUMAN FOOD FOR 12 DOLLARS!!!
YOU FOLKS CAN KEEP ON PAYING BIG BUCKS FOR "SUPER PREMIUM" DOG FOOD IF IT MAKES YOU HAPPY BUT REMEMBER A LOT OF THE MONEY YOU ARE PAYING GOES FOR ADVERTISING AND "KICKBACKS". WELL I GOTTA GO ON MY DAILY WALK, SEE YA !!!! BUCK

Hiya Buck, I'm glad to hear that you're doing well on your food. The brand I eat (Innova Evo) and pretty much all the other super-premium foods I've ever heard of actually don't do advertising. They feel that their food is enough advertising on it's own since it is such great stuff! The brands that spend a lot on advertising are usually not the premium or super-premium foods. The brands that advertise a lot are usually the grocery store foods (ones you can get at the grocery store) like Pedigree, Purina, Iams etc.

Very good point Sabrina- I have never seen any advertising done for any of the true premium foods...I guess they assume that the people who go out and find the true information on dog foods will find them, lol.

Hi Buck! my mom's aunt's pomeranian just died last year at the age of 17. All she ever ate was Ol'Roy. Guess it works wonders for some dogs!

Yes very good point. I have never seen advertising for any of the super premium foods. I guess they don't have to because quality speaks for itself.

Yes, some dogs will live to an old age on the lowest quality cheapest dog food available.
My family's previous dog passed away at almost 17 and she ate Kibbles N Bits, Moist N Meaty, Alpo etc...

That does not mean those are "good" foods. Some people who eat McDonalds all the time or smoke 2 packs of cigarettes a day live to 90 years old, but that doesn't mean that you should do that too...

Personally I feed the best high-quality dog food I can find because I want to do whatever I can to help my dogs live as long and as healthy lives as possible, and I have researched dog food and food ingredients a lot-- I know that the lower quality foods contain lower quality ingredients which are not the best diet for a dog or things which dogs do not need in their diet or cannot digest (nutrition plays a big part in health) and some even contain harmful ingredients which have been connected to cancer, liver/kidney damage, or other problems... So I try to find foods that have high quality ingredients that contain only things that I know are good for my dogs. That's just my opinion and how I feed my dogs.
I talk about dog foods and food ingredients because I think that everyone should know what is in their dogs' food.

My Buddy has been on Science Diet for over 10 years. Once he became diabetic, not because of the food but because of being on Pretnozone for 5 years straight for skin alleriges according to the vet, we switched to the Science diet Light small bites. The light formula helps us to keep a handle on the diabetes.

I have 6 labs and the rest are on Nutromax for large dogs. We added the Nutromax with lamb and rice and everyone has put on about 10 pounds but their coats are so shiny and they poop less. Nutromax is cheaper by a little compared to Science Diet, but I believe the weight is about 5 pounds lighter per bag, so don't forget the weight of the product when calculating the price.

About 4 years ago, the vet that recommeded Science Diet in the beginning said that Science Diet changed their protein source to cut cost and that it lowered the quality when this change took place. Buddy maybe diabetic but he is 12 years old, longer than the usual life expectancy for labs.

LOL Spider.. wink

Okay, everyone.. post your resumes.. NOW! hehehehe.. I'm kidding wink

It looks like Sir Frankie, the initiator of the thread, had a few questions regarding science diet, and sufficient answers/discussions on the topic. Is there a need to discuss any further?
