Science Diet is a poor quality dog food if you compare it to what is available out there. It has a lot of low-quality ingredients in it and it is not a good food for the money it costs (you can get a food with a lot higher quality of ingredients for the same price or less.)

Some of their foods have more low-quality ingredients than others... For example they have a prescription food for weight loss, and the second ingredient is PEANUT SHELLS!

Many of their foods contain a lot of corn (an ingredient used as filler which dogs cannot really digest) and are mostly grains with little meat. If you look at the ingredients list, you will often see a grain as the first ingredient and usually in several other places on the list as well... Even if it is not the first ingredient, there are often so many grain ingredients that they make up most of the food anyway. They contain very little vegetables, if any.
They also contain iffy non-specific ingredients such as "Animal Fat" which is a product which is rendered fat and it could be from any kind of animal since they don't list the specific species.

AS fas as veterinarians saying it is a good food-- you have to keep in mind that the majority of vets are NOT nutritionists. Many vets know little more about which dog foods are good than the average pet owner knows.
There is very very little nutrition training in vet school, and often the information they do get in vet school is sponsored by Hills! (Hills writes the textbooks, gives seminars, etc...) Vet students also often get free or cheap food from Hills... So of course they will tell you Science Diet is a good food.
For example in the vet school for my state, they only offer ONE course in nutrition in the regular curriculum, and that course is about deficiencies and nutritional problems and not about what ingredients are good/bad in pet foods.

I am a vet tech and have worked in 3 vet hospitals since I was 14 years old. All along, my dogs have eaten Science Diet and every vet I know recommends it, for these reasons: It has high-quality ingredients, meaning real meat and no by-products, it flourishes the skin and hair of the dog, it supports a healthy immune system for an overall healthy dog, and it was created with vets so its strictly one of the best dog foods your dog can eat! I totally disagree with the claim that vets do not know a thing about nutrition! Have you been to vet school? Do you work in a vet office? I have seen what other dog foods have done to the animals that come in for checkups. Foods such as Pedigree, Purina(any form), wet foods of any kind, Costco brand, supermarket brand, Iams, and any of those brands you see on the far end of Petsmart that have astounding low prices, all of those create problems that will only cost you more money at the vet's office. These foods cause diarrhea, vomiting, bowel disorders, bloat, and skin, eye, and ear disorders. The reason why? Poor ingredients, such as: Water, by-products, flour, vegetable fillers, gravy, and so many more. Science Diet along with Nutro, Canidae, Wellness, Drs. Foster and Smith brand, and Nature's Recipe are all high-quality food that will keep your dog out of the vet's office for unexpected visits and improve the overall health of him/her. Oh, and probably help them live over 5 years longer(Yes, this has been proved!) So, you can buy the cheapy brands or the ones with fillers because your dog scarfs it down cuz it tastes so good, or, you can pay a bit more and have a happier/healthier dog for life.

Goose poo eh? Hmmmmmmm...that's one I haven't tried. No rabbit either. Though the way I scare them when I go outside you'd think they'd be leaving plenty behind.

My and my brother Joey love goose poop. We think its delicious! Mom hates it when we sneak a poop in our mouths here and there. Now she watches us closely. haha. I guess we will just do some research and see if there is anything better for us doggies to eat. We have no problems now, just my brother joey itches allot.

Hi Frankie buddy. Chaz had the itchies and very dry flaky skin when we got him. Right now he eats Canidae chicken and rice mixed with Natural Balance duck & potato. The duck and potato is an allergy formula so it would help with the itchies. Canidae is also very good for the skin and coat. Both of these foods contain flaxseed, an essential fatty acid oil. He does not itch as much now and his dry skin flakes are gone. We live in an extremely dry climate so everyone's skin is dry here so we all itch from time to time. BOL!
When we adopted Chaz from the shelter he had very dry skin and he was losing fur from his ears and they were very dry. He was tested for mange and it was negative so we were told it was most likely dry skin and nerves from being in the shelter. So for 3 weeks I applied a vitamin E capsule to his ears and the hair has grown back.

Shall I continue?

Yeah.. a lot of vets seem more concerned with what makes them money than what is actually healthy for your dog to eat. A lot of vets sell IAMS which is pure crap in a bag and Nutrience which contains Menadione. You'd think a vet would know what Menadione was.

Doesn't matter.. it's all about what will make them the most money.

Oh and vet tech doesn't make "vet" either... kthanxbye
