Hi Guys, Im back. Mommy works so she flips back and forth, working and going on Dogster. Sorry! I read all the posts. Thanks for the advice. I will just stick to Science Diet because they like it and I have no problems. I don't really remember what the other dog food was that the pet store lady recommended. She just scared me the way she said Science Diet was bad for dogs! We all want what is best for our dogs. As long as they are all healthy, I would just continue what they are eating all along. A healthy dog is a happy dog! haha.

If you live near a Petsmart or Petco, you can probably get it there since your pet store lady doesn't sell it anymore. I've never seen it at grocery stores before. I know my vet carries it too.

Yes, that is where we go now to Petco. Other stores like Walmart, SHoprite don't seem to carry Science Diet. We make monthly trips to Petco because its not too close to us. Petco has a big variety of stuff.

Newman can only eat Hill's prescription Science diet so it really doesn't matter, BOL. I hope to be able to change him to something else eventually but only because it's a pain to get this as only the vet sells it.

Our pack does not eat Science Diet. We eat Innova EVO. Tracker especially had done amazing on it. But that is our pack. Each dog is their own being and does best on whatever it thrives on.

As for vets and Science Diet. Our vets (we go to 2 clinics, one for out cats and dogs and ther other for exotics) do not sell it anymore in their clinics, except the prescripition diets. However they do not put it down either. They also subscribe to the "whatever your dog is doing best on" idea.

Just do your own research and compare what you like and what you can afford. Its your love and care that matters.

My main complaint with Science Diet is it's cost. Ok, it's cost and quality of ingredients. After researching dog food ingredients (the good, the bad and the ugly), I believe there are better quality foods out there for the same or less money than Science Diet. I don't know that I would call Science Diet bad (there are definately worse foods out there), but I think it's cost leads a lot of people to believe it is better quality than it actually is.

However, if your animals do well on it... I'm not going to tell you to change.

I agree with the whole theory of each dog is different and will do better on one food then say the next dog. Mine are on science diet presciption food called j/d and I believe it is a good food since my dog shiva is walking better since being on it. I work at a vet and we only carry the prescription diet type. When a person asks for food advice we advise they use well known brands with some type of nutritional research to back them. Each dog is different. Oh one more thing- science diet does not pay the vets or their schooling to carry their food or advise their food. I'm sure the vets would love it if they did but they don't. My boss ( a vet) laughed when I told him that. He just wishes they would pay off his student loans. LOL Vets advise what they feel works based on scientific data and experience. We also advise presciption purina foods and royal canin prescription foods. We are not partial to one brand as long as it works for the problem. OK end of my tirade. Its a good food. I'm done. Can't wait for some backlash on this one!!!!

I'm going to try and keep myself "contained" about the Science Diet issue, but if you look at the ingredients, it has worse ingredients than GROCERY STORE BRANDS!!!!! Not to mention some formulas contain ethoxyquin and BHA/BHT which are carcinogenic for dogs!.....please get educated on ingredients....you can find a billion more, better foods for less than what you pay for SD. www.dogfoodproject.com

I highly recommend fresh cat poo. It's loaded with cat food yummies, and tastes like cat! If you don't have a cat I highly recommend getting at least one. Two is better--more poo that way. And if you get a marsupial pouch installed you can carry some around with you. That's what I do.
