A lot of people think Science Diet is horrible. Fifi eats it and loves it. She's very picky and will eat nothing else. I have tried some of the "better" brands like innova, but she wouldn't touch it. I don't think that Science Diet is the best brand out there, but it is far from being the worst. Two of the vets I've worked for in the past sold it and fed it to their dogs faithfully. Of course all dogs are different and one food that works well for one dog may not be good for another. Fifi has small hard stools and only has a bowel movement once a day. She also has clear eyes and a shiny coat. I've heard of others that tried Science Diet but said that their dog had BMs several times a day and itchy dry skin. I think you just have to choose the right dog food for your dog. I've never heard anything bad about any of the Science Diet prescription brands.

But the thing is do you think the sales lady REALLY knows, How do you REALLY know that they are low quality ingredients. To me it seems like a matter of opinion. It doesn't seem like there is an agreement ANYWHERE about what food is good and what food is bad.

You're right Fiona. Every dog will react differently to different foods. I tried Innova for Chaz because I loved the ingredients and thought it was the best possible food I could buy for him but he hated it. Solid Gold made him throw up. Thankfully, I finally found a nutritious food for Chaz that he likes.

As I said before, Science diet is not the worst food but it's not the best either.

Bailey, The way you know that the ingredients are low quality is by researching them. I would not take anyone's word for it without researching it for myself. But what I would do is take the information given to me and research it myself to find out if the statement is valid. I have been studying nutrition for years and I literally research everything before I use it. I get a little carried away sometimes. BOL! I drive my parents crazy.

my dads dogs were all on science diet, they were nice healthy gsds . i think its all how your dog reacts to food, which i have now learned. there is no best dog food because dogs all take it in different. as for ingredients, whats healthy for human maybe bad for dogs, as we all know with chocolate. so whats unhealthy for humans like chicken butts, may in fact be healthy for doggies.
PS: BOL B and Z

Well there are certain ingredients in some dog foods that are unhealthy for dogs if you choose to believe it or not. No one is ever going to convince me that toenails and rectum are healthy for my dog.

I don't understand why people even ask for advice, if they know everything anyway.

Sir Frankie did nothing wrong. He asked for advice and hasn't said much since then, so please don't get mad at him for anything. He's never acted like he knew everything.

If this isn't who you're talking about Chaz, please elaborate.
