Lola destroys every pet bed that we buy here. She is 6 months old and has gone through 3 already. Does anyone have advice on pet beds to try? I've looked a little online but haven't found too much.

Hi Miss Lola......are you chewing them up or ripping up with your
nails???? Have you tried Bitter Apple?? I've never had to use it myself, but have heard a lot of good things about it. Just spray it
on your bed and it's supposed to taste bad enough you won't want
chew on it anymore......if you're ripping it up.....is there some way
your Mama can put it up and out of the way til bedtime and that
way you'll associate it with sleeping and not....."Oooh, I need
something to get into so let's tear this up!!!!"....... That's about all
Mama can think of at the moment...............

Hi Lola:
What kind of beds have you had in the past? pillow types or more of a donut bed? Mom has a retail store and has seen tons of beds, but can't think of the best indestuctible beds off the top of her head. She'll post it to one of the pet retailer message boards and we'll get back to you with suggestions.

If the bed is left out at night she stays up all night long ripping and chewing it up. She hates bitter apple spray but will continue to attack the bed until its in pieces.

I've tried 2 pillow beds and 1 bed that was kind of a combination of a pillow with a donut shaped piece attached to it, if that makes sense. She loves to rip apart the zippers and then take out all the stuffing. Last, she'll rip the pillow covering into pieces (so it's both ripping and chewing that she likes). Right now she doesn't have a bed at all and I feel so bad for her but can't keep spending money on things she's going to rip apart! I also really don't want to spend $150 on a bed for her. I feel helpless!!

She's also 7 months old...can I hope she'll grow out of this?

Hey again Miss Lola.....if you think it's a 'puppy thing', might be
best to wait it out before you sink signifigant bucks into another
'toy'......got a Goodwill or Salvation Army in your area??? Get
a cheap comforter for her to sleep on, if you want her on something
softer than the floor.....you could actually take a comforter, cut
it into quarters and have 4 small 'beds' out of it....just sew up the
'cut' sides.....not 'good sewing', leave the edge raw, since you know
she's gonna tear it up.......our Goodwill has comforters for $5.69.
That comes to $1.43 each.....cheap enough til she outgrows it.
Mama also just got her FosterSmith catalog yesterday. They have
one in their touted as Super Tough tear-resistant. 1,000 denier
heavy weight nylon fabric.....
28x48 XJ-24696 $69.99
36x54 XJ-24697 $89.99
Not cheap, but REAL dense fabric....which is what it is gonna take
to keep her nails or teeth from pushing threads apart and getting
a toehold (pun intended) in. Good luck....... One other thing.....
we had a pony growing up. Star was MEAN, really mean. He bit
my uncle one day....took the skin right off the top of his hand.
Uncle Buddy got some Texas Pete hot sauce and put it on the
top of his hand and let Star lick it off......Star never bit him again.

Hi Lola! I haven't visited your page in a while, but you got bigger and prettier! Penny likes to rip off the zipper and rip out the foam stuff inside too. She seems to have stop if I spray bitter apple everyday. Maybe you can first look into a bed without zippers? There are tons and tons of websites with dog products, I'm sure one of them will have what you need. Goodluck!

Hi There:
There are quite a few beds out there now with velcro as opposed to zippers, but if Lola is only 7 months old, I would say that is definitely a puppy thing. She probably will outgrow that phase, but some dogs stay in a destructive puppy stage for up to 2 yrs frown
I would go with the suggestion of a comforter or a pile of old towels or something. Good luck.

Lola, Orvis makes a dog bed called ToughChew that's guaranteed...if your dog can chew it up, they will give you your money back. My mom is thinking about getting one for me (I chewed through my LL Bean bed and my mom didn't think that all of the stuffing all over the living room was very cute).

My friend here in town hasn't gotten through his ToughChew bed, but a friend on my Large and In Charge forum has...but got his money back. So we'll just have to see how it goes!

Good luck!

My mom thanks you for all these really good ideas! She said she'd try the comforter option because Dad will take away her debit card if she spends anymore money on a bed for me!!

Lola that is what now have along with my pillow that I have outgrown is a comforter from my mom and dad's bed. (they gave it too me how nice ,after i put a little hole in it trying to tugg it away from them)

Jade sleeps in a crate lucky me I dont have too, she has a king size bed pillow but I know she will soon grow out of that too.

I like my comforter because I can curl up in it...then when mom and dad are not home.... I get their bed smile
