So I've been doing a lot of reading on flying dogs as checked baggage, as Lilith will be flying checked this year. We have only had dogs flown in-cabin and once Luna flew as cargo, which I imagine is almost exactly the same as flying checked (ANA doesn't allow dogs in cabin so that's why Lilith is going as checked)

Anyway, on another blog, someone wrote that persons working on the tarmac and the runways are required to wear ear protection to protect their hearing, and that dogs will be exposed to this noise without any protection.

I suppose I'm just getting pre-flight jitters, but honestly that sounds horrible.

Any truth to this? Anyone else fly as checked before? confused

My Rotts would fly with me everywhere(they probably had over a few hundred thousand miles) and I never had any problems with their hearing but I guess it could happen. I would call the airlines and ask about their policy on loading animals(how long it takes, if they sit on the tarmac long or are they immediatly loaded).

It never affected the show and pull dogs that I've flown (numerous) times.
