Continental Health Certificate

My little Roxy and I flew on Continental once before (she was an in-cabin pup), and they never asked to see her Health Certificate.

We're about to travel again with Continental next month, and I'm trying to find out whether the airline requires a Health Certificate at all. On their website, I cannot find one sentence about a required Health Certificate, which is weird because I think most -- if not all -- other airlines do require one.

Anybody know for sure (maybe from experience)? Roxy is a healthy and vivacious dog, and a Health Certificate just seems like a poor use of $50 I'd rather spend on her other needs.

Thanks.

On their In-Cabin Pets page the statement "Customer is responsible to determine and comply with all state entry requirements which may apply." is the key. Most states have laws regarding any dog/cat entering have a basic health certificate in addition to being current on rabies.

They are required for any animal going as checked baggage or cargo since airline employees must handle the crate.

So essentially, because Roxy is traveling in-cabin, no one else is handling her, so a "health certificate" is not required by airline itself (although different states may require one).

I actually called Continental shorty after posting and asked about this. The woman seemed confused at first, but ultimately said "As long as you have the documents that say she's up to date on all her shots, that's all we'd need."

Which is really all I wanted to hear, anyway. I have all the paperwork that says she's gotten her vaccinations, I just didn't want to pay another $50 to have my vet reiterate that on another piece of paper.

Hopefully this will help others in the future, too.

While I understand you want to save money, you do need to check the laws for the state into which you are traveling (and check your state as well if you are returning). Should something happen while on your trip, animal control can ask to see the health certificate.
