|I put a picture of Milton riding in his homemade bicycle basket on his profile. It's tied and strapped down to a rear rack. I use to have another bike, but since the last post, that bike is no longer with me. I am using an oldskool open road bike as my commuter currently.
Training a dog to ride in a basket/trailer is not hard and not complicated. I trained Milton to ride in a basket in a day. I first called him to the bike and gave him treats when he was near it. After that I placed him inside my basket. Then I walked the bike with him in the basket on my street. When he was calm I gave him treats, I discouraged him from jumping out or putting his paws on the sides. Then I took him for very slow rides. He jumped out twice, both times he was restrained. It was not cool, so he is not restrained anymore. He has not jumped out since that day.
Milton rides in the basket often and comfortably. The basket has a folded towel on the bottom with a crate pad covering it. The crate pad has puffy edges and provides padding on the sides. the total contraption cost 40 dollars. The rack was most of the price. I can use the basket for groceries too and can ride the bike to work with out a fuss. I leave it on all the time.
