Hi Watson,
I just read your earlier reply about "sneaking" dogs in, and I want you to know I wasn't judging you.smile
I just wanted to put it out there about the allergy sufferers, since I hadn't thought about that before until someone mentioned it to me.
I have both snuck Lupi (as a tiny pup) into Costco in my purse, and, more recently, actually wrapped her up like a baby and carried her into my sister's condo, which has a no-pets rule.red face

Again, I never implied nor did I even notice it was being argued that the wrong dogs were being discriminated against, that only certain dogs should be allowed, and that certain dogs should be banned. shrugLarge dog owners were merely pointing out that small dogs can be as noisy or as destructive as large dogs.

Um, actually, Allie said:
In my opinion (hope I don't offend any pups here) is that the smaller the dog, the more likely they are to bark and bother people.

Not that small dogs were just as much trouble as big dogs, but that they're more trouble.

Just as small dogs can be as frightening to some as large dogs may. I think 'real dog owners' appreciate rights for all dogs and dog owners.smile

Dr. Watson, did you read my proposed rules for dogs in hotels? In response to Allie?

No, wait, yes you did, and responded with agreement. But don't remember now?

It's very nice that your dog walks on the ground. If there are dangerous crowds or gratings, a person with a small dog might carry the dog -- I see nothing wrong with that. When my dogs were smaller, I sometimes carried them in my arms in certain situations. (Something nasty on the ground, hurrying to get them out of a room to potty.)

Absolutely there are times when a small dog has to be picked up, for safety and for other reasons.

And it's a common complaint of big dog owners that this happens--any small dog being carried anywhere for any reason is more evidence that small dog owners don't allow their small dogs to be dogs. Or that small dog owners are getting away with something. In fact, when I wrote that bit, I was responding to some pup named "Dr. Watson" who said:
But this is the sort of resentment that happens when big dog owners run into different rules for big and small dogs, unfortunately.frown This is not limited to lodging, but also to just going in a bank, store, etc. A lot of people, and I am not counting Dogsters among them, will 'sneak' their dogs into a store, etc. in a carry-bag.thinking

I ws making the point, in response to you, that I don't "sneak" Addy anywhere--and you use it to deliver a lecture to me on the fact that, yes, sometimes small dogs do need to be carried. I have a small dog, and even though she's not a tiny, yes, there are times I pick her up when someone whose dog weighs 90 pounds wouldn't see the reason for it (i.e., those grates are less of a problem when your dog's feet are the size of dinner platters.)

Also, I think that sometimes large dog owners -- just like small dog owners, 'reactive' dog owners, 'non-reactive' dog owners, like to blow off steam and vent.thinking

But when they vent in a general forum with both large and small dogs, and toss in generalizations about small dogs that are no less offensive than the generalizations about large dogs that they object to, they should not assume they are going to get no response, or that all small dog owners will be nodding in agreement, saying, "Yes, of course my small dog is much more obnoxious than your big dog."

I had good luck with a Sheraton in Orlando smile when I had to help my family evac south Tampa for a hurricane. Of course, they ran out of food and then power, and the hurricane cut right from Ft. Myers to Kissimmee, FL

It was kind of hard to plan too far ahead for that one, when all the friends and relatives lived either in South Tampa or at the beach! And wanted to leave the public shelters for those who truly needed them. shock

Did you see my other reply that mentioned Sheraton? That's one of the hotels I have a reservation for on the trip I'm planning this month.

The company that owns Sheraton Hotels recently started a new pet program called "Starwood Love That Dog." They have made it a policy now that all their Sheraton, Westin and W hotels allow dogs. However some may still have restrictions or fees, although the one I will be staying at does not have either fees or size restrictions.

You can read more about this here:
http://www.allbusiness.com/travel-hospitality-tourism/lodging -hotels-motels/10607905-1.html

"2003
Starwood announces that its Sheraton, Westin, and W hotels will welcome dogs in the U.S. and Canada. As part of the Starwood LTD (Love That Dog) program, four-legged guests will receive luxurious dog beds and amenities like plush robes, doggie toys, and canine massages. "

Dad has allergies...that's why we are an all Poodle household. Hotels are always trying to put us in "smoking" rooms because we have dogs. Grrrr. Hello! Allergies!
