 | | | | Hi Jelly. Don't suppose you'll read this, since the post is a bit old, but just in case: I work for a petsitting company, and believe it or not, we do actually spend at least 25 minutes or more with the dog on each visit. The mail, lights and other stuff only takes 5 minutes, and the rest of the time is for the dog. Typically for a vacation sit, we let the dog(s) out or walk them briefly, then feed them if it's breakfast/dinner time, and then take them for a walk. Then we change water, lights, whatever, and write a note. I spend at least 30 minutes with the dog, and usually it's more like 45 to 60 minutes. All dogs I've cared for this way do well with this. They sleep a lot of the time in between visits, and then when the sitter comes, they get 20-30 minutes of concentrated exercise, which is often as much or more than what they get at home with the owner in today's busy world! I know some people think $20 per half hour walk or visit is high, but you're paying for our training and insurance, and making it worthwhile for us to do it, given that we usually have to spend an hour per job when travel time is factored in! It can, however, get pricey if you pay a company to take care of your pets for a two week period - usually more than a kennel. | | | | |
