My mommies are planning in June a trip. Little brother and I get to go because we're staying at a house owned by a relative, but I get very car sick. The ride is about two and a half hours. I can only be in the car for twenty minutes and I start puking. Course mom could not feed me, but I still get sick and just gag a lot. Is there anything that my parents could look into to help me? It would probably be best otherwise no one will enjoy this car ride.frown

Crating my carsick dogs seems to help the most. And, Dramamine or Bonine will work for dogs as well.
Other than that, lots and lots of short trips.

Why don't ya post this question over at Schnauzers Rule?
We had some pups with the same problem awhile back. There were some good ideas. I can't remember them right now. red face

I do remember some pup said to have a gingersnap cookie. Ginger settles our tummies.

The holistic pet health books that I have suggest ginger as an anti-nausea component as well.

I get used to get sick in the car as well. My mom figured out it was because I was frightened. So if that's the case with you, you may want to try her approach. She went to Petco and got some of their ginger dog treats in bulk and then every day she'd load me into the car and feed my on or two of the ginger treats. Then, we would just sit in the car for about 10-15 minutes (with the engine off). After I started relaxing more in the car, she repeated the process but turned the car on and let it sit idling. Then it was short trips around the block and progressing to longer car rides. Now I love the car, and have no problem getting sick.

Opie got sick in the car even though we did regular short trips from the time I brought him. I recommend benadryll or dramamine but check with a vet about dosage. It's pretty much better now, but I'm not sure if he grew out of it or just learned to curl up in a ball and hide his head thru the ride.

Max used to get really car sick. Crating helps a lot. Any mess is well contained! That really helped MY stress which probably helped him as well. Crating between the axles helps and being high enough to see out the windows helps as well. I trained and trained but mostly it was time that cured it. A couple years ago he even started asking to go in the car!
