Last semester I did a presentation on the pit bull ban in Denver (I live in the burbs of Denver), and I used one of these photos to get my point across. Everyone in my class cringed, which was what I was hoping for. Most of the typical college age students already hated the ban, but some of the older students were either indifferent to it, or supported it. They asked a lot of questions and I felt good leaving. I shook so bad giving my presentation, so bad that everyone saw my legs shaking and wanted to come up to hold me so I wouldn't fall, but after it was done, and all the questions I got and minds I opened, I was happy I did it.
P.S. I also showed a video of pitties being friendly and playful to strangers, kids and other dogs.

Good job Penelope! All it takes is to change or even open just one person's mind, because they have people around them who believe as they once did.
Education is the way to start changing BSL laws.

Milton, you're right. Pit bull type dogs (and pit mixes) are second only to labrador retriever and their mixes in shelter numbers, very common in household dog numbers as well.

Angel, if you are concerned about travelling or moving to an area that might have BSL, you can contact the area's town or city hall, police dept, about where their local ordinances are posted. Sometimes they post it online, or you can ask them directly if they have any BSL ordinances in place. If they do, it wouldn't hurt to tell them why you are not visiting or spending any of your money there.

Just so you are aware pitbulls are not the only breeds that suffer this injustice, there are others. As much as I advocate for the pitbull types as well, and their plight has become very public. Please do not forget about the other targets of BSL like my Akitas. All of these beautiful, loving, loyal and wonderful breeds need the help of anyone against BSL. Who knows your dog could already be on the list,or the next addition. What the city of Denver has done to pitbull type dogs,or even dogs who in someone's eyes looks like it might be one is truly disgusting.
