	Breed ban: please protest 72-hr.-kill proposal in Cumberland County Animal Control in Fayetteville, NC. Feel free to use the Sample Letter but please modify heavily as it is particularly long. BACKGROUND There is a breed ban set to go into affect Monday the 5th of December all Dobermans, Rottweilers, Chow Chows, German Shepherds, Great Danes, Pitbulls, Mastiffs (all bully breeds), Akitas and Huskies. Cumberland County`s reason for this is they do not want to be held liable for these breeds and the possible problems with them after adoption from the shelter. A simple waiver should solve this. We need to let them know that this is not the answer. These dogs will be held for the mandatory 72 hrs and then will be killed, THEY WILL NOT BE GIVEN A CHANCE TO BE ADOPTED. If the dog is an owner turn-in, he will be killed the second he walks into the back. 	I think this is awful. I own 2 Akitas,and have been around most of the breeds that ban will affect. I wish you well and hope you are able to get enough support to stop this. All breeds should be given an equal chance to be adopted based on a case by case basis no breed should be singled out. I am so sorry for all the dogs who will be euthanized because of this. Please let us know what happens.

	We don't live where this is happening but are still trying to pass it around for the dogs. I have 3 of the breeds mentioned. Red is a APBT Mastiff cross, She She is a Chow, Sakari is a Husky, Hope would probably be labeled as a Chow mix because she has a spotted tongue. And Boozer would probably be labeled as a Shepherd mix due to his markings. We had a talk with the shelter about why this was happened and they said that they have way to many of these breeds coming in and can not get them all adopted out so they are pursuing this ban. When I asked if it was fair to kill them all instead of giving some of them a chance they hung the phone up and I got no response.

	Great Danes!! Seriously? This is beyond ridiculous. The people who signed this into law should be removed from office. shakes head Hopefully someone will be able to do something about this before so many wonderful dogs are murdered. *Question: Does the shelter/animal control allow rescue pulls? 	This is getting more and more out of control. I think the next step will be banning all of these breeds and all larger and "giant" sized dogs. Some places have tried to ban any dog over 20 lbs. Something has to be done to stop the idiocy.

	Daddy,stopping idiots from being allowed to have any of these breeds comes to mind but as long as there are places who don't screen for the right people to put these beautiful dogs with this will continue to happen more and more. I hate it and wish I had more room to safely rescue some of them but all I can do right now is keep preaching that people need to put more thought and research into picking a breed or stick with a potted plant.

	The information contained in the original post is inaccurate. From what I (and other forums that have done a bit more digging) can tell it is an e-mail being sent around by someone close to the matter who is attempting to whip up more emotional furor about it. It is strife with ridiculously inaccurate facts or complete fabrications. (Not blaming you at all, OP, I thought it was legit when I first read it through as well). The Animal Control Board decided to recommend limiting the adoption of the following breeds: Rottweilers American Staffordshire Terriers Pit bulls Chows Presa Canarios Any mix of the breeds above The policy has not been implemented at this time, and it has not been brought before the Board of Commissioners for approval. However, the Animal Control Board will meet again December 5, 2011 at 6 p.m. in the conference room at Animal Control to discuss this matter. Any subsequent recommendation from this advisory board would need to be sent to the Commissioners’ Policy Committee, and then to the Board of Commissioners for approval. Anyone with suggestions and viable alternatives for the Board’s consideration to alleviate animal control and irresponsible ownership problems would certainly be appreciated. I am inclined to believe based on what I have read that it is a full-out ban, though. It's what they "met to consider" but then it says they came away with "limiting adoptions on these breeds" - so that could mean a couple different things.
