Why are people SO stupid?!

I live in a fairly quiet neighborhood. About 10 minutes ago I took Gunner for our routine stroll thru the neighborhood before bedtime. I am no more than 3 houses away, minding my own business, Gunner is sniffing away, when 2 lab mixes charge at me. All I hear is a low growl and the noise of pads hitting the concrete and I swoop Gunner up into my arms, trying to kick down these big mixes who are jumping up all around me.

Finally one of the dogs leaves me alone and trots back inside the FRONT DOOR of it's house.. the damn door AND screen door and swinging WIDE OPEN. With Gunner in one arm and grabbing the other dog by it's collar I pull it into it's house and ring the doorbell repeatedly. Apparently these people are SLEEPING with their door wide open! I tell them that their dogs ran right out of their house, right at my dog, and it's a good idea to keep the door closed when they are sleeping so their dogs don't run away. The man proceeds to tell me that "Oh." and shuts the door.

UGH!!!! I was SO pissed off.. pissed off that these dogs scared the crap outta me (I didn't know if they were aggressive or not, but if I was a dog I'd sure as hell be mean if some random dog charged me). I was pissed off because I told him nicely "You should keep your door closed so your dogs don't run away." No thank you, no I'm sorry, not even a stupid remark "Oh, they get out sometimes", just "Oh." door slam.

I swear some people should NEVER own dogs. God forbid he has children and leaves the door open for them to wander away. GRR!!

I guess I could understand the door being left open... stuff happens. But I would have been apologizing profusely and continuously for as long as you could stand to hear it! "Oh." is not the appropriate response.

I just found this post from craigs list on another forum. Talk about STUPID!!!!! This is downright cruelty!!!
"Shih Tzu Female 5 years old, pregnant. She is due very soon. She has from 6-9 pups usually and is a great mother. She loves everyone, adults, children, cats, and dogs. I am asking a rehoming fee of $35.00, so she will recieve a good home. If you want her AKC papers I am asking an additional $15.00 for them. She is breed to a registered tea cup chihuahua that has an excellent personality. Her puppies are considered designer puppies and if you choose to not register them, in Walmart's parking lot they go for $100.00 or more if you choose to sell them online they go for $300.00 or more each. We are leaving for a month or more and don't want to worry about her and the new borns. I am asking those that respond to write me and tell me why they would provide her a good home so I can choose the best and right one for her."

Yep that is pretty bad.
I am sorry that happened to you.

I use to leave the back door open as I use to work 3 rd shift all the time.
But, my yard is privacy fenced in. and when they barked I got up and put them in.

So, I believe it next time tell them they should fence in the yard securely, so that they can safely be outside.
That way everyone is safer.
They probably don't care as the dogs could run off or be hit by a car.
I hope they don't keep doing it.
I think you did the right thing. wink

Why are people stupid? Partly because they've been conditioned--both purposely and by accident--to be that way. Over the years, people have been conditioned to put 100% of their trust in "experts". That, IMO, is purposeful. Experts are great, but no one is to be trusted completely. People who will hang on every word of those whom the government deems to be "experts" or "knowledgeable" will be easy-as-pie to manipulate.
Nonpurposeful conditioning, I think, comes mostly from pop-culture. I've seen old movies where dogs would run right out the front door, get the morning paper, and go back inside to wake up their master. Cute for the movies, bad idea in real life. People are not being taught to think about their actions--or use their head at all--these days.
People...so easily deceived. naughty
