Finally, a Reporter with the nerve to tell it like it is. She isn't afraid to do an article without sensationalism and isn't worried about how well it will sell. Hope others will follow her example and set things straight, not only for the Pitties but all BSL.way to go

I'm glad they talked about how human friendly they tend to be and ATTS scored, but I got sick to my stomach when the article and the links they referenced to pushed the statement that Pit Bulls were "bred/designed for killing/fighting with other dogs" despite the fact that they were used first for bull baiting and working, THEN they were used as fighters, then later still some lines became show lines and didn't see the fighting pits. This damages the breed almost just as much as saying they are good guard/attack dogs. I wish just once they would focus on every dog being an individual; I know several people who do big-time Pit Bull rescue and several who do much smaller scale Pit Bull specific rescue and a couple of reputable "Pit Bull" (American Pit Bull Terrier and American Staffordshire Terrier) breeders, and out of all of them there's only been three truly dog-aggressive Pit Bulls they've had, and it's been same-sex aggression, none of the Pit Bulls I've known have been dog or human aggressive. Experience vary of course, but really, if they were "designed to kill/attack other dogs", and it was "genetically inherent", the whole breed would be like that, and you can't train genetics out of a dog, you can only manage genetically predisposed behavior.

The only way we can improve any dog's image is to show people that they are all individuals in temperament. There are dog aggressive Pit Bulls and ones that love every other dog they meet, there are also some Pit Bulls that are human aggressive due to mistreatment, lack of veterinary care or release of their abundant energy, or training to be aggressive. But that's the case with any breed. I'm seeing more and more people saying they need to be banned now because "even if they aren't human aggressive, they were bred to kill other pets", and many people, myself included, see their pets as family or even a their "fur children", why would they want a big vicious dog around that's going to go around attacking the neighbors' cats and toy poodles? I've gotten comments too saying Daddy and Peg are just ticking time bombs that are going to "snap" and kill each other one day despite Daddy having lived with three other dogs that all but one were intact and one intact dog being female, all Pit Bulls all living indoors as family members, because "it's just in their instinct".

I had a "friend" send me the article yesterday, and while there were parts that I liked other parts, like what Daddy mentioned, didn't sit very well with me either. It is definitely a step in the right direction, but I would like to see more emphasis on dogs as individuals and that there is no real thing as a "pit bull"
