Not just a pug.. but a fox terrier too.

shrug Some I can understand but all dogs shouldn't be treated differently because some owners don't have a brain.

I think the whole thing is just nuts. ANY dog can bite and cause damage. I hate the argument that big dogs are worse than little ones. As a child I had a Lhaso Apso that basically ripped my earlobe off an I needed 25 stictches and plastic surgery. Give me a pitbull orr rottie anyday. At least they don't tend to snap out of no where. Little dogs are actually quite more scary than big ones as I beleive they are more likelty to SNAP... but again... one just has to train any dog right.

This all so crazy!!! I am more scared of people than they are of me. What am I going to do? Pee on you? Get a clue people. Dogs are only a reflection of the enviorment in which they live and grow. I had a horrible puppy hood and I am the most loving baby in the world. Some people just need to be shot!cheer

Yeah, something's up with this particular list. Cape Coral, FL (in my county) is listed, but their regulations/laws are the laws adopted by Lee County as a whole! If you go to Lee Co. Animal Services web site & click on adoptable dogs, there are Rotties, Pitbulls & mixes, plus many more. Florida law specifically bans BSLs in Florida. The only thing counties & cities can do is make "vicious dog" & "bad dog" laws more stringent than the state & those definitions have nothing to do with breed, just behavior, repeat behavior, & owners taking responsibility or not.

Yes, I'm anti-BSL, but I wish folks would print the truth, back up their literature with citations, etc.

Even so Bobbi Girl pits are banned in Miami, state law or no.

The exact wording of Miami-Dade County Law: "It is illegal in Miami-Dade County to own any dog which substantially conforms to a pit bull breed dog, unless it was specially registered with Miami-Dade County prior to 1989. Acquisition or keeping of a pit bull dog: $500.00 fine and County Court action to force the removal of the animal from Miami-Dade County. ONLY an Animal Services Investigator trained in pit bull identification will determine if the dog conforms to pit bull breed standards."

Colorado also has a state level ban against BSL, but look what happened in Denver.

Gwydion, most likely what is really going in is someone claiming there is BSL in a particular community, but not providing any details or documentation--not that the community has "secret" BSL that it hasn't revealed the details of to its citizens. It's yet another indication that there's something fishy about this list. Click on that link another poster provided, look at the BSL table for your state; mine, Massachusetts, shows a small number of communities claimed to have BSL--a large percentage of which are listed as "unconfirmed." They're listing the community as having BSL, even though they haven't yet bothered to find out if it's even true.

There's also a cute little sleight-of-hand going on, listing tiny dogs and big, powerful ones in one undifferentiated list, as if all the breeds were "banned" or restricted because people are quaking in their shoes at the sight of them--when in fact the prevalent complaint about little dogs is that they're yappy nuisances, and what's likely really happened is that some condominium board or homeowners association somewhere has banned specific little breeds because of some specific nuisance that they couldn't get rid of any other way.

All in all, it looks like a suspect and dishonest list, scare tactics rather than real information.

Wow, Raskol! I just did a little research & discovered WHY Miami-Dade gets to ban Pitbulls:

Florida State Statutes, 2002
767.14 Additional local restrictions authorized.--Nothing in this act shall limit any local government from placing further restrictions or additional requirements on owners of dangerous dogs or developing procedures and criteria for the implementation of this act, provided that no such regulation is specific to breed and that the provisions of this act are not lessened by such additional regulations or requirements. THIS SECTION SHALL NOT APPLY TO ANY LOCAL ORDINANCE ADOPTED PRIOR TO OCTOBER 1, 1990.

That's sad, but I have to say Florida is at least trying...

Bobbi-Girl. Thanks for pointing out how they did it. Denver had to sue the state on the basis of home rule (and won). There are always loopholes.
