Actually there's been a rather high incidence of GR and Lab attacks primarily due to over breeding by puppy mills and aggression problems being linked with them. Media just doesn't cover it like they do pitbulls.

I was reading that breed ban list posted and I really like that Italy figured out what it's all about. I hope America figures it out soon too:

"In the new document, the Italian Government recognizes that the previous law didn't prove useful to reduce dog attacks, and that is not possible to determine the risk for a dog to be aggressive or dangerous on the basis of its breed.

Given those facts, the list of dangerous breeds is supressed, and any dog is considered the same, regardless its breed or size.
The owner is responsible of the good care of the dog, and of the behaviour of the dog.
Dog fighting is banned of course, as well as any way to enhance the dog's agressivity for fighting purposes (or any other purpose).
Courses will be organized for the dog owners to learn how to take care of the dog and to keep it safely and to obtain a sort of "dog owner licence". (These courses are not available yet).

Any dog must be registered and microchipped.
Any dog must be leashed when walked outside and in public places.
The owner must carry a muzzle to put on the dog if requested by authority.

If a specific dog bites someone or causes problems, a process of evaluation of the dog starts and the specific dog can be listed in a special list as a "biter".
That means the dog must carry a muzzle always and everywhere.
It can be necessary for the dog and the owner to take classes to rehabilitate the dog (and the owner).
The owner must have an insurance for the dog."
