I am the- Chocolate boy! |
| Barked: Wed Oct 8, '08 1:30pm PST | | | | | | Alot of lab owners. Not all of them though. Many have already been aware labs are up there. Us that have the blacks and chocolates have to worry every day almost as many see our dogs as evil creatures. Others love them. I was never for BSL and have always loved the so called "vicious" breeds because I grew up with dobermans and rottweilers. Belgian was almost a year old though when I realized that I too will have to educate those for BSL. Belgian has been kicked out of places because he resembles a pit. How stupid is that? However it is very common. Every day I am asked what breed Belgian is or if he is a pit bull.
However I still know of lab owners who aren't aware that labs have bit in the past and are just amount of dog as all the rest of them.
Also don't be put off too much about the dude comment. I am from CA, southern to be exact. it is very common to hear dude. I say it quite often myself. I am in college but it sorta hung on on me when my friends started saying it. I try not to use it when I post but sometimes it slips a little. I know when I go up to my yearly visit to Montana I get mad fun of because apperantly I have a accent. I didn't know I had one but when I go up there as soon as I start talking people just say "your from CA right". Yea I am.

Ban the Deed - Not the Breed
|
| Barked: Wed Oct 8, '08 2:23pm PST | | | | | | Shadow hasn't ever been kicked out of anywhere because we are lucky - we don't have any BSL in our direct area and he can go wherever. However, I do get asked on a regular basis if he is part pit. Unfortunately, we got him fixed, threw out the paperwork (stupid, I know) and never got him registered because we weren't going to breed/show him so I have no proof. | | | | |

The boys are- thirsty in- Atlanta. |
| Barked: Wed Oct 8, '08 2:41pm PST | | | | | | I've had plenty of people ask if Omahyra is part pit. Even though she's all of 10 pounds. Even the foster she came from [she was supposed to be pit/chi, then chi/shih-tzu, then chi/pug then whatever. Basically, they don't have a clue]. I will admit that sometimes when I look at her I think I can see it, but most of the time I don't. Thankfully, we've never been kicked out of anywhere because of it. It also shows that most people have no freaking clue what a 'pit bull' is. If it looks even a little like it might have the tiniest slice of some kind of bulldog [O has kind of a wide grin and wrinkles under her eyes where her nose is kinda squished and broad] then it's a pitbull. I do have a story that kind of shows how ignorant people can be.
I had her out one day and a lot of people do think she's just a puppy which is why they guess pittie or boxer or whatever, but we were out shopping and this lady, older, came up and crouched down to pet her and play with her and she was telling me how sweet she is and how pretty and O was loving it. Every second of it. Then this guy comes up and he says, 'is that a pit bull puppy?' and this lady nearly broke her neck jumping back. I was like . . . really, lady? She looked like O had just morphed into a cobra and that was before I even had time to answer. Of course, seeing the ignorance, and seeing how she was in love with O just seconds earlier, I had to say yes. We think she's part pit, but she's fully grown. Most of the time I just tell the truth because we don't know. Chi mix of some sort. But I couldn't resist because O was being so sweet and the lady just turned, like . . . in an instant. Just. Beyond stupid.

O used to lift her leg when she peed and she liked to mark so I am shocked that PetSmart never became a target for her. And she humped things. I have never ever seen a girl lift her leg, but she surely did! She did it in front of the entire family one day and it's still a running joke.

He was a pup and going through his teenage years. The only other time he ever tried that was at the vet. Now he doesn't do it at all. Well only the bushes and trees outside.

I mean, they have the papers and spray to clean it up so they have to be used to it! Oma peed on Amos when we first brought him home. Then she tried to hump him. He gave me this look of 'plz to take me back where u got me. thanx.'

One moment you have this incredibly strong, bold, loyal, brave, confident dog and the next you have a extremley terrified and traumatized dog. He had surgery as a pup and was afraid of the surroundings. It was emergency surgery so there was no way to prep him for the night.

| Barked: Fri Oct 10, '08 9:13am PST | | | | | | Does anyone know how they justify some of these breeds? What makes a dog BSL worthy? Who is incharge of making up these lists and could he not find a job at McDonalds? I see these lists and truly don's understand how a dog lie a PUG hits that list? | | | | |
