It's disgusting how these dog fighters and drug dealers work.. when all the pitbulls are eradicated by the BSL people..they'll just move on to the next breed and the next..

Any dog can and will bite if provoked or mistreated. I would bite if someone provokes me enough. I also think that it's the media that brain washes people and the politicians that have nothing to do but make up some stupid laws. Why don't they concentrate more on getting rid of guns on the streets, it's more dangerous to go to school now days than get bitten by any of the breeds on the list. Like was it yesterday there was another shooting at school in Illinois how many is that now?! I also believe that PETA is behind it somewhere.

Please keep in mind that BSL in many areas are simply laws pertaining to dogs in general. Millions of laws that have been on the books for more years than anyone talks about. I'm not defending BSL in any way, especially any that create hate or fear towards a certain breed. I just want to add that any law on the books pertaining to dogs, has recently been turned into a BSL breed haters rally. We may see dogs like Newfoundlands, St. Bernards and Golden's on a list like this and not realize they are on it simply because certain Boroughs of NY and a few other VERY dense, urban areas do not allow a dog this size. This is nothing new. More than 20 years ago San Francisco put a law on the books that stated any dog in the city limits had to be debarked. shock A lot of crazy laws are out there and I just think that we should be careful to see what the specific BSL says before we assume they are all the same and imply our dog is dangerous or will be shot, confiscated or put down. I've seen a law that was labeled as a BSL and listed over 500 types of dogs. When you actually read the whole statute it simply stated any dog on the list must be leashed at all times in public areas. Sadly a big contributer to a lot of BSL that is very hate driven is created be insurance companies. They will not write a homeowners policy to someone if they own certain breeds that they have decided are dangerous. This also extends to property owners not being able to rent to people that own those breeds and so on. It is a sad epidemic created by fear.

As far as a Pugthinking I'd have to read that BSL to know what it said exactly. Can't say I ever met a FURocious Pug. Perhaps they are just intimidated by a dog that is smarter than the town council! big laugh

I do see PETA all over this too. I would be interested in reading more indepth about these local ordinances and laws. I think the most important thing to focus on is how to stop this and start educating. I think that too many Americans do not have respect for animals and therefore do not care at all about these restrictions. I think you can judge a society on how it treats animals..ours is not looking good at the moment.

The title of thisthread is "75 dog breeds banned or RESTRICTED"
That is saying that not that there is a ban on them but restricted to have to wear muzzles / spay / neuter/ fenced in / NEVER off leash etc. Yes in some places the breed/ mix has been on the law books for many years. Because of BSL, they were just added to the BSL lists in the area. I myself don't know all the areas each listed breed/ mix is banned or restricted. As for " understandable" that some is on the list... HOGWASH. No breed/ mix should be banned or restricted. The owners should be. Saying it is understandable is breedism and that says you agree with any or certain forms of BSL. BTW BSL mean BREED SPECIFIC LEGISLATION..... that means certain breeds have certain legislation on them. Not that they are not allowed as in Ontario ( no pittie types to be born after a certain date/ only the ones registered before that date are allowed which means grandfathered etc. ) So before ( maybe to late) you get all up in arms about pugs, labs, or whatever.... it just means there are laws about that breed(s) / mixes. Don't mean they are banned.

A pug?
OMD!!
That's the most dangerous dog there is. *insert eye roll here*
And a Golden Retriever?
People are getting out of hand these days.
They DON'T need to be banning the dogs.
They need to be doing something about the owners.
Because, a bad owner makes a bad dog 9 times out of 10. thinking

In most cases where a dog kills or injures a person that dog is well known to neighbors and animal control and animal control did nothing. Is it ethical to allow a dog to live in misery until it runs amok in public. Of course not! That's why I see PETA/HSUS all over this. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is more interested in taking away all dogs than addressing the unethical misery and abuse that puts some dogs down this destructive path. The Humane Society of the United States is more interested in taking away all dogs than addressing the inhumane conditions and abuse that puts some dogs down this destructive path. Why else would they push Ban the Breed, not the Deed?

Alaskan malamutes!!!!!!! So may people are misinformed about this breed! I find it unsettling the stigmatism placed on such a wonderful dog....

Rarely does anyone even know what Chaska is when we are out and about. She gets called everything from a siberian husky, an alaskan husky, a "snow dog", to a wolf and I am always well impressed when someone(which is seldom) knows she is indeed a mal.

Awwww well, can't please everyone all the time, but my Chas is a good girl and I love her....

wow in fact after looking over the list again, it seems they included near every"snow dog" sled dog type breed.......

Maybe the ban on them is no sledding with them down the interstates,bol.....
