My mom and I posted the following under the HURRICANE KATRINA forum but felt it warrented posting under the DOG LAWS AND LEGISLATION forum also ... the more people that know and respond, the better ...

According to the recent DOG FANCY magazine: “In September, Rep. Tom Lantos, D-Calif, along with Reps. Christopher Shays, R-Conn; Don Young, R-Alaska; James Oberstar, D-Minn; and Barney Frank, D-Mass., introduced legislation that would require local and state emergency authorities to include pets and service dogs in disaster evacuation plans. The Pets Evacuation and Transportation Standards Act (H.R. 3858) is aimed at preventing authorities from separating people and their pets during a disaster. Visit www.house.gov to contact your state representative.”

My mom is going to be writing to her state representative to get the PETS Act passed. More information can be found at the following web sites:

An example of what to write to your state representative can be found at the following site:

I’m hoping members of DOGSTER will write their state representative to make sure what happened to the pets affected by Katrina never happens again. Thanks for your support - Nathan
