	My sister came across this article the other night. The author discusses a possible repeal of the Pit Bull ban that went into effect in Prince George's County, Maryland in 1996. My sister is outraged by the author's attack on the breed, and the lack of education he has to even write about such a topic. He has obviously never worked with Pit Bulls, because if he did he would be in love with them as my sister is! Why are people so ignorant??? Please read this article, and give us your take on it! Also, please email the author and let him know about your Pit Bull's loving nature! You will notice his arguement is weak, as he has NO credentials whatsoever. Has he worked at a rescue? Has he worked with a breeder? Is he a Vet, Dog Trainer or Behaviorist? What EXPERIENCE does he have with his subject? How did this guy get published???? It is our job as advocates of the breed to educate the ignorant. Please read the article below! I just want to hug the bully dog in the picture- is he cute or what??? 	Maloney is an idiot. You give any breed to a drug dealer, etc the dog will most likely end up being vicious. Instead of banning the breed Prince George's County ought to be more responsible about who is allowed to own dogs in the county. We're gonna write this douchebag and tell him to stick it where the sun don't shine. When I'm elected President BSL will be banned forever and advocates like Maloney will be neutered. VOTE ISABEL/ISOBEL and ban BSL!

	I think i know what your talking about, but this guy was talking about SB861 andhow his dog would never be a victim of that(Pitt bull), and he supported SB861 and since he didn't live in that state, it didn't matter,until; that night when the do attacked him and he went to the hospital, that sure changed his mind quick! He said that SB861 should be stopped because he didn't want his dog to be euthanized, though he supported it when everyone elses dogs were being euthanized!

	Well I've read and heard this a million times : "Pit bulls bite with a force of almost 2,000 pounds per square inch -- that's twice the force of a German shepherd or a Doberman pinscher." It is a totally fabricated dstatement. It is impossible to measure this...it cannot be done. I can't believe how many people use this argumant and how many belive this. It simply cannot be measured. period.

	I wrote to him - a very polite and informative letter - and I included actual research arguing almost every point he made. In addition I sent him contact information to two specialists who are unbiased researchers and professors...let's see if I hear back!

	Prince Georges County is spending more than $300,000 per year on the current BSL. They don't need more restrictions, but less, so they can go after vicious dogs instead of family pits. Urgh. Two great sites with BSL info: understand-a-bull.com and http://www.rott-n-chatter.com/rottweilers/laws/breedspecific.html Also a national geographic study has illustrated that pit bulls do not have greater bite strength than other dogs (from undestand-a-bull). In the past year there have been strides in this area conducted by Dr. Brady Barr of National Geographic. He added sensors to a canine bite sleeve and tested several animals. Domestic dogs averaged in the 320lb psi. The pit bull was tested as well and had less of a bite pressure than 2 other breeds that were tested. 	I wasn't able to read the article due to a computer error, but we are having a similar problem in our town. I will be honest, the dogs scare the dickens out of me, but I live in an area of town where there are a lot of illegal dog fights. That makes almost all of the pitbulls around here horribly mean-that's the owners fault. I don't think that they should be able to ban a breed, reguardless of how I feel about it. They should however ban certain people from owning dogs-any breed-at all. A good example are repeat offenders for dog fighting, people who abuse their pets, ect. That's just my opinion.

	Thank you for all of your responses! It's really frustrating how the criminals seem to have more rights than responsible dog owners. It is so difficult to prove abuse and neglect, and save these animals from their terrible owners BEFORE the situation becomes dangerous (for example, someone being bitten by an abused animal turned aggressive RAL). Backyard breeders always get their dogs back when they are found RAL, because they are considered "property". They pay a number of fines, but nothing is done for the animals safety. It's disgusting. In addition, the "studs" are obviously NOT neutered, resulting in a possibly more aggressive and protective (of the females) animal when unsupervised (RAL). It's all so frustrating, because to change the laws to be more strict with the criminals and backyard breeders(one in the same to me), would be a violation of THEIR rights. So instead they attack the breed itself. Sam - I respect your opinion. I'm sorry that you don't know any sweet bullies. I myself have never met a bully that I did not like. Please keep an open mind, and I hope you meet a sweet bully friend soon! In the meantime, you have several sweet bully friends online! Ah whatever! 	You dogs seem awfully interested in fighting BSL. You might be interested to know that we and a few other dogs are trying to coordinate BSL efforts on Dogster. Our first step is to convince Dogster to start a forum section just for BSL issues; that way these threads don't get buried and we can better coordinate our efforts. We ultimately would like that forum to be a hub where organizations that are actively fighting BSL can post updates, pending legislation, who to bark at, etc. If you think this is a good idea please contact HQ directly and tell them you want a BSL forum. If we can coordinate our efforts with all of Dogster and outside groups we stand a better chance of doing a lot of good. VOTE ISABEL/ISOBEL and fight BSL!
