the longest wait.. neck swelling in dog

This forum is for dog lovers seeking everyday advice and suggestions on health-related issues. Remember, however, that advice on a public forum simply can't be a substitute for proper medical attention. Only your vet can say assuredly what is best for your dog.

Hi all

Took my 3 yr old dog to vet today as he had what looked liked a swelling of his glands in neck.. thought it could be an infection from chewing a stick week ago or even a splinter in there somewhere..

vet gave home sedation and looked down to see what the issue was etc, nothing found but he did find what he described to me as a thickening of the epidermis of the throat extending to the top of stomach? vet took biopsies , he said he had never seen anything like that before , very strange looking thickening

now that the area is shaved.. you can see prominent thickening.. he has been in reasonable form , eating not the best but not bad.. no problem drinking , a bit tired now and again , also a slight wheeze at night

Any thoughts or did anyone have a dog with similar?confused

hi all ... good news!!!!!!! vet called, turns out it is chronic inflammation and nothing sinister as he put it! may have been caused by an injury from a stick that occurred two weeks previously even with no obvious signs of injury .

he is on antibiotics for the next 2 weeks and the lump has gone down!

hope this posting might be of some use to others in a similar situationsmile
