Hip dysplacia or Just odd proportioned?

	I've read that hip problems can happen in the bully breeds. With Callie-I've gotta start posting pictures-he might be perfectly fine, I just wonder about his back legs. Typical bull body is huge chest and shoulders n' widdle bitty back legs and frog butt. Sophie has the build but her back legs are small and uber muscular. With Callie his back legs are almost soft, puppy-like. He was underweight when we adopted him but he's gaining which is good. He walks well but wants help jumping on beds etc. Is it something to worry about or just a watch and see issue? Maybe as he gains weight and exercises regularly his legs will develop like Sophies? Feedback?

	Koby has Hip Dysplasia. His symptoms are pain, weakness in the back end (he physically can't jump), noisy hip joints (they sound like hollow logs banging together) and his hip joints clearly move in and out of the socket when he walks so he has a wobbly walk. So if your dog doesn't display any of these symptoms, I wouldn't worry. If he does, then you might want an orthopedic vet to x-ray his hips.Good Luck with him.

	Koby, i have a quick question about hip Dysplacia, I have heard it is common amoung Huskies as well, and i'm wondering do they show those symptoms if it is early dysplacia? Like when I am grooming Mika she is fine as long as im at her front end but as soon as i try to get her hip area above and underneath she refuses to let me, of course I have to to make sure her fur doesn't get matted but even when I am so gentle she will let me for a moment and then she whines and tries to get away, I fully intend to have X rays on her but until then do you think it sounds like she may have it or maybe she just doesn't like being brushed in that area??

	Koby was diagnosed at 6 months old. I suspected he had it at around 4 months old. He would cry when he laid down, got up or turned a corner sharply (even when walking). After play, he was at his worst. He hates his back end brushed. He gets matted easily, so we have to do it anyway. I feel bad because we have to restrain him to do it. We just make sure we do it quickly. His right side is worse than his left, so we're mindful of that. He can't help it when he misbehaves (because of the pain), so we take that into consideration when brushing him there. If you suspect your dog has it, then I would get an x-ray to confirm it. At least if she has it, then you will know what she can and can't do. Good Luck!

	Thank you Koby, I will for sure get some X rays done for her, see she doesn't appear to be in any pain until i try to brush her back there, especially right in that crease underneath. So I am concerned about it, ive also thought about maybe she has irritated skin in that area and when the brush hits it, it hurts her. I have tried looking at her skin but it is so hard to see right down to her skin with the whole double coat thing happenin....

	Kali has very mild Hip Displaysia. She doesn't like me brushing her rear end either. She is no where near as bad as Koby. You really can't tell she has it until she's been doing a lot of jumping or when we brush her back there. Sorry Opheila, we didn't mean to hijack your thread.

	Yes, they did an x-ray to confirm it. Just be sure your vet knows how to do it properly. I've read that not all vets x-ray properly for Hip Displaysia. Ours had the x-ray sent out to an Orthopedic Specialist to confirm how bad it is. Good Luck with your pup.
