not getting all of his Trifexis?

First let me lament Interceptor's irresponsibility one more time, as I grow more and more frustrated with this situation each day.

These Trifexis pills are MASSIVE, even for the GSDs, and its hard to really "hide" them in anything... they're larger than a quarter and almost half an inch thick and smell like a lawn pesticide... do dogs honestly eat them willingly?

I have to chop Mulder's in half and mix it in with his raw just to get him to eat it.

I was able to mix in Ridley's the first couple of times, but tonight he was wise to me and ate around them. Put it in cheese, he spat it out. Eventually it came down to me having to FORCE it down his throat.

Now my concern is if he actually got enough of it to be effective. Some of it had dissolved in the food of course, surely some in the cheese as well, and I think a good deal of it got left behind on me as I slid around on the floor trying to jam this bleepin-bleep-bleep horse pill down his throat.

Should I be worried he didn't get enough of it? Its supposed to be for UP TO a 120lb dog, Ridley is closer to 70. Even if he only got half the pill, do you think he would still be covered? For the record, I don't care about the flea thing. I'm using something else for that, I'm just worried about heartworm.

I don't know, but maybe some else will. I agree with you about the interceptor. I'm afraid to change anything in Kali's diet because she has food issues, even with flavored pills. I don't know if will help you, but my vet sold me 2 smaller doses, that add up to her weight, so I didn't have to change (yet). They stocked up when they heard about the shortage. They still have smaller doses. Maybe your vet does to?

I asked, but they only had the smallest size, and they told me it would take something like 3-4 pills for a dog Mulder's size... which felt pointless at the time, considering I needed it for BOTH dogs.

I really, really hope this gets sorted soon...

I have the same problem with the Trifexis. It drives me nuts. The pills are big, but they're also thick so it's incredibly hard to break them and then get Okami to take them because of that horrible smell.

I won't be buying these again if I can help it...I'm really hoping Advantix will work for Okami :/

All but one of mine take them willingly. Hotdog piece, hotdog piece, pill, hotdog piece...

I've also not had a problem splitting them with a sharp knife as I had to do the other month when I realized I had pills for the big guys but none for the littles. Honestly if it's that much drama to get it down I'd just drop it down his throat after a nice treat and make him swallow or switch to Heartgard temporarily. Thankfully HWs don't develop overnight. A month of less than ideal protection isn't going to make a huge difference in the long run.

Generally speaking half a pill would bring him down to the lower weight dosage. I had the math all worked out with grams etc for when I was splitting pills for my little guys but if you look at the recommended dosage per weight and the actual pill contents you may see that the weight is fine.

Bad news, maybe? I just heard on the news five minutes ago that now Excederin is also affected and there are more problems in the factory. Hopefully, this was really OLD news and our local station is behind on it!!

Toto, seriously???

Ridley puked last night. Couldn't tell what was what, as there were pits and chunks from his THK, so I couldn't tell if any of the pill came up too. It had been several hours since him eating it thought, so surely it would have been dissolved by then right?

I'm thinking I should call the vet again and see what they know. I really don't want to use heartguard, I don't trust it.

A couple of years ago Bailey threw up after taking Heartgard. The vet told me that as long as it had been at least an hour since he had taken it, there were no worries. Hopefully the same applies in the case of Interceptor.

We have a vet appointment in 3 hours. I'm really hoping they still have Interceptor in stock. They took their last doses this month. I'm kind of regretting only buying a 6 month supply of it last time. I never imagined the production problem would last this long. I don't want to go back to having to be on Heartgard puke patrol.

Mulder,

Why don't you trust Heartgard?

Scruffy only has like 3 or 4 Interceptor pills left so I'm exploring my options.
