|Y'all had me curious and being the weekend, I could not wait until Monday to ask my vet..
I called our local humane society to ask what the laws were regarding yearly vac's, and they said, for Frankie, he had his first rabies shot at about 3 months, then they said he will need another one a year after that (at about 15 months?), then he will be good for three years after that..They said rabies is the only required vaccine by law (um, yea! ) but I felt a little better after talking with them, bc I was under the impression that rabies was once a yr and also thought parvo and distemper were yearly and req by law.
I will double-check on Monday with my vet, though..
But this is somewhat reassuring..
The tech from the humane society did suggest getting the parvo again after he turns one yr old and again after he turns two next year just because he is still young. She mentioned she gets her dogs shots (distemper and parvo) every year, and she mentioned if someone wnts to adopt a dog, they check to make sure any current dogs you own are UTD on all vaccines, inc parvo and distemper..
So, for what it's worth, they humane society seems to encourage the vaccines...
I am still undecided..
On one hand, it seems a bit much (even though the tech down-played the vaccines as 'only one shot'...), but, on the other hand, parvo is nasty-nasty-nasty stuff......
