The same thing happened to Bailey during the summer. She would hack and cough and try her hardest to throw up whenever she would run or get playful. After running or walking (or any excersise really) when she breathed through her mouth she would weeze and it sounded awful.

My first thought was kennel cough (we had taken her to the dogpark a lot) but then I remembered she was vaccinated against it. And just like you said, this came out of nowhere without any sign of it.

Then after researching I found out the vaccination against kennel cough is like the flu shot to humans - it doesnt always work.

So she drank LOT'S of water, and would be in the bathroom when I showered (I read the warm air/moisture helps the throat)

I decided that if it didn't go away after a week, we'd go to the vet. But after several days it went completely away and haven't had any sign of it since.

It sounds like kennel cough to me, but if you're really worried take him to the vet. I really hope he's okay, good luckhug

It is kennel cough, but a very minor case. He only coughed two or three different times this morning and once at the vets and I didn't hear him cough last night.
The vet said if I thought Moose needed a cough suppressant he'd prescribe one, but I didn't think it was necessary.

This evening I've only heard him cough once and that's been it.
We just came inside from doing some running up and down the street and zoomies on neighbors lawns and no coughing, so I think it's going to clear up quickly.

Only bummer is that I had to skip our puppy class tonight. I'm sure I could sit in on a different class to make up for missing tonight, but boy we sure could have used this class tonight. Moose was wound up tight.

Just wanted to add that Shandi is completely vaccinated against kennel cough and she's caught it twice so in my experience it doesnt always work. Maybe Shandi is just prone to it because both times Banjo didnt catch it.

Shandi - kennel cough is like the common cold - many different strains & even if you are vaccinated against it, you can still catch a lesser version of it. Spreads like wildfire and dogs with lower immune responses, puppies or older dogs are most at risk.
