Still another UTI...

This forum is for dog lovers seeking everyday advice and suggestions on health-related issues. Remember, however, that advice on a public forum simply can't be a substitute for proper medical attention. Only your vet can say assuredly what is best for your dog.

I read back through the whole thread (sorry didn't do that before). Has the vet suggested having a bladder scope done?

It's my understanding from Chance's ultrasound that "plumbing" abnormalities would show up then.

Her old vet jumped the gun (in our opinions) in suggesting scoping for Chance who was diagnosed with her inverted vulva at the same time as her 2nd UTI in a couple of months.

I can't remember what it is called but she thought Chance may have excess tissue that allowed the bacteria to hide from abx. I believe it has something to do with the umbilical cord???
The way it was explained to us is to imagine the bladder is a balloon and the problem area would be where the balloon is inflated and tied off. That little area is very hard for abx to get into to kill the bacteria, a culture comes back clean and then the bacteria recolonize.

Yeah, it sounds like some testing is needed at this point, having him on antibiotics that much would scare me.

Also, has he been on the Earthborn for all the UTIs? I want to say you changed it at some point, but I can't remember. If you haven't changed it, then a change to a comparable brand might be worth a shot. My cats always had instant UTIs on Wellness stuff for some reason.

Yes, Chance, I know of that problem. I actually had a Frenchie who had that issue and we had it corrected surgically when she was three months old. She was fine afterwards.
However, they do not believe Toto has an issue with that, first because that usually shows up when they are young and he will be seven next month and second because he clears right up and stays fine for a couple of months before he has bacteria again. He was fine until he was almost six.
It is really frustrating because he definitely does not feel good when he has the UTI. Because he is so good about peeing in my bed (usually ON my pillow!) when he first gets one we are able to treat them before he has too much bacteria working in there, which is nicer for him.
That peeing in my bed is soo weird. He only does it once, and in the beginning it would be several days or more before I was smart enough to realize he had a UTI, yet he would only pee the one time. Now the minute he does it I have him at the vet the next morning!! They still won't just give me the antibiotics for him, which is maddening because it costs so much for the sterile collection (and hospitalization!). I know he has one, HE knows he has one but he still has to spend the day up there, which he HATES!
He has NEVER peed in my bed without having a UTI!
