Any dog can choke on them, but the Frenchie has such a short upper jaw that they WILL choke on them... I would way rather my dog be chewing on a half of a kong than choking on a rawhide that I may or may not be able to pull out of his throat before he chokes to death on it. He's not going to choke on that half kong cuz it's sliding down his throat.

i beg to differ,
i think if half a kong was sliding down my dog's throat
(which is what happened to shooter) then he def.
WOULD be choking on it, and if not- he is never
going to digest that. however, the end of the bully stick
i pulled out of sumo's throat was already digesting, it was literally
dripping bully stick onto my floor-
which kindof comforted me, to at least know that it was
disintegrating and not just sitting in his stomach.
would i have liked for all 6 inches to be sitting in his stomach? no.
that's why i am glad i pulled it out. but as for things that can be eaten
vs. rubber toys, i opt for things that can be eaten and digested.
(i do NOT feed rawhides, btw.)
unless it's a nylabone because those seem to be the only
toys that don't get torn to bits around here.

but i guess the reason i do this is mainly because of shooter
(the one with teeth of steel) if i only had sumo,
i can imagine it would be different and i would probably
trust toys more than i do.

This post has me sighing a HUGE sigh of relief. I just got my bully sticks in, and I have been so frustrated with Darcy. I got the 12" braided sticks, which she proceeded to chew into a white gooey mush and then try and stuff the entire gooey mess down her throat. I really thought there was something wrong with the bully sticks b/c they were all turning white!

I guess us bullies just like to make messes and chew on things. But I guess a digestible bully stick is better than the stuffie she swallowed whole a few weeks ago shrug At least I know I'm not the only bullie mom this has happened to! Maybe it has something to do with our drool - i swear its corrosive!

yes, darcy- bullies are garbage disposals.
i didn't have to puppy proof the house- i had to bully proof it.
i swear he thinks anything that fits in his mouth is edible.
luckily we haven't had any problems like you did with
the stuffy, but we don't have many toys around the house
for that exact reason. i agree i would rather it be a bully stick
in his belly than a rubber or stuffed toy.
so she is doing the same thing with the braided ones?
