Bingo has a lot of health issues. When we started fostering him nearly 2 years ago we where told he had spleen tumors probably cancer and had 2 months to 2 years. He also has hind leg weakness and a wobbly gait either from degenerative spinal disease or a disk injury, the vet is nto sure. We adopted him since he is unadoptable and he has always loved to eat and move around. The vet confirmed the tumors where cancer but likely slow growing and nothing can be done, he is just not a candidate for surgery. She said he might have amonth or a year. He continues to eat and drags himself around on his front legs in the house.

Recently his back legs are weaker and he cant stand for more then or two steps. He cant go in our back yard becuase he has scraped his legs and feet back there, its concrete an d he cant stand to pee. I have to hold him up. We clean him regularly with baby wipes and put on ointment but there is still some redness. However, his mood is good andhe still eats like a horse. He even tried to play with my friends young french bulldogs who are staying with us for the weekend.

Im thinking of getting him a hind leg cart since his mood is still good and he doesnt seem to be at deaths door. Then he could go around our back yard and stand to pee as you can potty in the cart I looked at. In the house he could still drag himself as we dont have rugs so he doenst get rug burn. I contacted the rescue group to see if they could give me some money towards it i fI agreed to donate it back, its an adjustable cart after Bingo passed on. Has anyone used these carts with success. Im scared we will buy one and it wont work or that he will pass away from his cancer right after we get it (of course I know there are no guarantees) The vet really cant give me much info and I dont want to bring hi mback and pay just to hear I dont know again.

I am considering one for Winnie if she would go paralyzed in the rear, like I am fearing could happen. Her left hip had FHO surgery and works good, but the right one now has pretty bad dysplasia. The vet said we could do surgery but with her back being so bad, it would only be a small band aid. Plus, with her cancer being terminal, we don't know if it would make any difference in the long run, not knowing how long we have her.

Anyway, I haven't used a cart in the past but would strongly consider it. My mother thinks it would be crazy and that we should just put Winnie down if she would go paralyzed, but to me if she is still happy and eating and in no pain, there is no reason to euth her.

So I guess what I am saying is that I would do it if you can afford it and it will make Bingo happier. I think my family is more worried that Bo would knock her over in the cart because he is such a big goon. But he was really good when Sunny wore her "Halo" to help her negotiate the house.

Bingo is so adorable. I just want to pick him up and squish him. Winnie doesn't let me squish her. And she HATES kisses and will bite my nose if I try.wink

I've heard of dogs doing quite well with carts.
I think one person on another list I am a member of hooked up LED lights to the wheels of their dog's cart. big grin

We have decided to get the cart regardless of whether or not hte rescue group helps. I know he will only be able to use it outside, I cant leave him in it inside Id be too concerned about him flipping over when one of the dgos runs by. He gets around pretty good inside by dragging himself. Unfortunately we just had a 1200 bill for a plumbing problem and that combined with a 300 dollar cart will be hard. I am scared we will get the cart and then he will pass away, very quickly. If he has a few good months with hte cart though its worth it. I wishe we had gotten it sooner, but he had been getting on well in hte house and yard and he has his stroller for longer trips

Oh and I just wanted to add I would never have euthanized him for this, or any of my dogs due to paralysis. I would only do it if there where in pain
