5 days after spay surgery, I think a stitch has been pulled.

I saw my Aussie trying to jump into a recliner yesterday, she hit it and missed and I got hold of her and checked her stitches. One single stitch looks like it could have been pulled. The skin looks like it might
be separated right where the stitch is. It is so tiny. It is a little red in the crack.

I don't know if I really need to call the Dr. and I know if I do, he will want me to bring her in.

Has anyone ever experienced this? The whole area is not swelled, not even pink. Except for that one stitch and it is so close to a MAYBE, it is hard to tell.

She was supposed to stay calm for 10 days, but when you are only 5 months old and a hyper jumper it is nearly impossible.

I did but a large box in the recliner which she barked at and now it is working. But she flies around the kitchen like crazy. So far so good, except for that jump.

Yes, when you see my picture, I am in the recliner but that is BEFORE my surgery!

I think she's probably fine. Just keep an eye on it for infection.

When Sasah got fixed, some of her stitches looked as though they were pulled and it was beginning to pull apart but we just watched her to make sure it didnt bleen & for infection. She was fine. I think she will be okay, just watch out for infections and bleeding. Good Luckbig grin

I've never had a dog that didn't pull at least one stitch - I tend to have high energy furries. No harm, no foul. They all healed beautifully.

She'll probably be fine. Valley pulled a stitch at the end of the incision a week after the spay... I just watched it for inflammation and infection. The vet left the rest of the stitches in for a few extra days to make sure everything was thoroughly healed.

I pulled all my stitches out by the end of the third day. I was fine and healed beautifully.

Junebug has a glue closure, but she had a similar experience. After 7 days, I took off the e-collar and she started writhing around on the floor. The incision area did open up a little bit, but after putting the collar back on she healed just fine. Just as others have stated, keep an eye on the open suture to ensure it does not get infected. If it becomes more red, is hot to the touch or swells... take her to the vet. Those are signs of an infection.

Wow, I greatly appreciate all your responses. This is a great forum!

Tonight I decided to jump over the arm of the sofa to the floor. My Dad went out to the garage and came in with a big rope with a large ring and a hook on it. He tied the rope through the sofa. He hooked it to my collar and I can't get off the sofa. I wish I could jump!

Thank you all, I will have my Mom watch for infection. So far so good.

a little neosporin never hurts, either. hopefully, it will help it heal even faster. Xena tore her stitches 3 different times and she turned out just fine- just slows the recovery time. I know exactly what you mean about it being so hard to keep them calm.

LOL this is my worst fear right now. We picked Boo up from the vets today and I've had her on leash and she's either been curled up on my bed or in her crate all day. We went and bought new bones and toys to keep her busy until she heals, since, as a Border Collie, well... energy energy energy for sure. I'm glad to hear it's not something horribly serious though if they pull one or two!
