Maddie, here's some more information about intervertebral disc disease. If you are paralyzed (can't move your hind legs) or if you're noticing any kind of progression/deterioration, you should see your vet ASAP.

Maddie-

I suggest you take a look at "Dodger's List"

http://www.dodgerslist.com/

It is an informational site (that includes a message board for support)about intervertebral disk disease, and would probably have a lot of useful resources for you.

Best of luck-

Hi Kid - You may be able to take some natural supplements along with your vets help...
See how the steroids work this weekend... they may take away the inflammation for a little bit.
In the future - many times you can avoid surgery with less activity, and some natural supplements to reduce inflammation.

My doxie was about 4 when she hurt her back. She had some movement but greatly reduced feeling in her hind legs. I crated her for weeks and carried her out to pee, and gave the steroids. She recovered fully. At age 15 she was still getting the "zoomies " and charging around the backyard at full speed.

I do know people that have had success with surgery as well. Just find a GOOD surgeon if you go that route, a specialist.

There is always hope, hang in there!

I would take her today to a neurologist or surgeon to be evaluated. If she needs surgery, it should be done asap.

I second the suggestion of seeing a neurologist to get a second opinion and possibly surgery. The success of surgery depends on a number of factors such as if there is still deep pain and the time frame of when it was done. If your dog is not showing any signs of deep pain, maybe that's why your vet didn't recommend surgery? But I would still get a specialists' opinion. I have known of a few Doxies that had it and they were back to their old selves almost immediately. hug
