This forum is for dog lovers seeking everyday advice and suggestions on health-related issues. You should put him down.. A little bit of a rant.

Pi Oh My! Don't listen to those negative comments, and sounds like it is time for a new "friend". A real friend would never say something so hurtful to you if they really cared for you they way REAL friends do. blue dog

I totally know where you're coming from. I have a 14 year old Cocker with a heart condition that almost died...twice! She then developed mange that was so stubborn and hard to treat. On top of that, she had food allergies and started losing her hair on her ears and underneath. She didn't want to eat anything as a result of being so miserable, so she lost weight. A friend of my mother's came over and acted like I was torturing the dog or something, and said how horrible she looked, and "she's old....you need to put her down". Well, I reacted quite strongly....said,"until you live with the dog and know what's wrong with her and how we're treating it, you shouldn't say something as insensitive as that to me". I hadn't seen her for months, and recently went for a visit to my parents with my dog and she was there and couldn't BELIEVE that it was the same dog. I said, "yeah, would've been a waste to take your advice and put her down, huh?"
Keep doing what you're doing.....the dog appreciates it, your life is greater for it, and it will pay off in the long run. smile

You need a new friend. Raw has made a huge difference Opie's skin. No more hot spots, scratching or pills. I've since figured out he has a wheat allergy but Rachel Ray's dog food is the only thing I've found thats wheat free and something I can afford. He still gets mostly raw but he gets the kibble often enough he knows it's food so if he has to stay with friends for a couple of days they don't have to deal with liver and tripe.
