You should put him down.. A little bit of a rant.

Takoda - Blind but- doesn't know it

Barked: Wed Jul 1, '09 6:37pm PST
We've had several people, some strangers, tell us that the best thing we could do for Takoda was Put Him Down. He's blind and has Diabetes Insipidus. My reply was usually a lot more harsh then yours and I would just ask them, When your parents get old, are you going to put them down. Suppose they go blind, or you go blind, can I give you the needle. That usually shut them up and, I'm sorry, I have no pity or respect for someone like that.

People, even so-called friends, can be harsh and stupid with their comments when it comes to something they know nothing about. If they can't take the first hint you give them and continue to push the subject, I'd have to ask myself if they are truly a friend.

Good luck with the raw diet and a prayer things turn out right.

I had demodecx as a pup t00! I did the mitaban dips and I still hate any kind of bath to this DAY because of them, though I got them at the vet. it took quite a few, but that did the trick for me. I also have canine epilepsy and have beed having seizures about once every 2-3 months for 6 years...mom often wonders if it is in some sort of related to those chemicals...but anyway, I also have lumps all over me and...that's about itlaugh out loud BUT more then one person in mom's family and dad's has told them to have me put down, that I'm not worth the money, or that I am not happy, blah blah blah.

What they don't realize is that I AM happy. My mom and dad take care of me, they give me meds to minimize my seizures, they love me and do everything that they can for me and Sammy. So mom ignores them and you should ignore your friend because she is insensitive and RUDEconfused I hope you feel better soonhug

You've gotten some great responses already, but I wanted to add my 2 cents. You are a good pawrent and I agree with the others who said that I probably would have been harsher with her than you were. Hugs for you, and always for Pi. Ignore your friend.

As far as quotes go, I'll leave you with my favorite:
"The more people I meet, the more I like my dog."

Zoey

Better than I- was

Zoey has epilespy , which I knew about when I got her from the shelter. She has some brain disfunction as a result of undermedication, ah well. She also has a thyroid thing going on where she loses hair on her sides, sometimes it comes back, other times, well, not so much. BOL. I get funny looks sometimes and some incredibly stupid comments, but really look at the source. Thankfully I come from a large family of severe dog-aholics, and my choice to allow her to be the healthiest, happiest dog makes prefect sense to them.

Now I know why you put quotation marks around the word "friend!" Ugh! May I suggest, the next time someone starts to get nasty like that, cut them off and let you own feelings be known. Right up front, let them know that it's a touchy subject, that you know what you're doing, that the dog is happy and you're not asking for opinions at this time.

Some people are not dog or pet people, they just don't get it. Some people really like to push their opinions about things out there, let the chips fall where they may. That was some BIG TIME stepping on your toes. Next time, I hope you take better care of YOURSELF and cut the person off before they get to you. I'm very sorry that you were in this situation, and I really hope that a raw diet will make a quick change in your pup's health. Be proud of yourself for the diligence and determination you are displaying in caring for your pup! Every pet deserves a "mom" like you!applausecheerapplause

Pi, sometimes the dogs with which we have the most difficulties are the ones that wind up closest to our hearts.

for what does money you spent to buy a dog count when you have paid for the dog with a piece of your heart.
