Dog Health

GO!
This forum is for dog lovers seeking everyday advice and suggestions on health-related issues. Remember, however, that advice on a public forum simply can't be a substitute for proper medical attention. Only your vet can say assuredly what is best for your dog. Don't furget to check out Dogster's Dog Care Guide Book for information about caring for the health of your dog!

You should put him down.. A little bit of a rant.

Hey Pi! Just saw your posts in the Raw Forum. I didn't know you have these health issues. But let me add that I suggest you include green tripe in your new raw diet. Since you live in Pasadena, you could order from www.greentripe.com. Don't know what the shipping is, but it's so worth it for his health. My active 2 get the Xcaliber mix on a regular basis.

You must check it out!!!!
way to go

Your friend sounds ignorant (sorry, that might be harsh, but she does). Some people just don't see dogs and cats and animals in general in the way most of us here do. They seem to think they're disposable. I'm glad you're doing everything you can for Pi...I know it's so hard to know if they're suffering and how much, and how long you should keep trying to make it better, but only YOU can decide that, not other people. You know Pi better than anyone does, and you will make the decisions for him that are best for him. smile Get better soon, Pi! smile

Pi, I'm SO SORRY that someone would actually say this to you. The fact that it is someone who considers herself a friend says a lot about HER...not about all you've been doing for your pup.

Where they come from doesn't matter. How we care for them does. And you've been exemplary! We totally support you in your quest for a cure, and totally agree with you!

Just love me!

I had people tell me to return Winnie to the shelter after she was diagnosed with glaucoma, Pannus, arthritis, Legg Perthes, and spondylosis. Then when I told them I wouldn't, they said I should sue.thinking

When I got Sunny and we figured out she was blind I got from people that I should make the shelter pay somehow. I try to explain that it isn't the shelters fault on any of these issues, but people don't get it. All the girls problems were due to previous owners neglect. But I took them in and they are now mine and really the only reason I get out of bed in the mornings and we are in it for the long haul. I love my girls, I love all my dogs.hug

I hate when people say that about animals who have health issues. Bless you for trying so hard to help your dog. Some people just don't get it.

don't listen to your friend Pi's mom.
I know how you feel though.

I have a friend who would always jokes that tippi is old and is going to die soon. Well, needless to say, I don't think it is very funny.
I get really mad and I'll hang up on him.
I let him know how I felt, and he hasn't done it since.

Maybe you should have just put her in her place.
Pi, you are beautiful!

Poor Pi (and poor you!) That was totally uncalled for. I hope you can make progress with the demodex and that raw will help you. I'm wondering about the itchiness? Demodex is characterized by being not itchy at all. Does he have a secondary bacterial infection as well? Also in terms of the Ivermectin and Collie sensitivity, it's true that straight ivermectin would be bad for him, but you can treat with spot on flea remedies as per your vet safely.

Good luck.

I'd have told her, "You're so ignorant someone should put you down!"

Last year Hershey tore both ACLs about 6 weeks apart and I was told by family I should put her down.

Harley has 9 food allergies and before he was tested, we went through a bunch of different diets trying to find the problem and I was told that I should just put him down. Well, now that we know what the allergens are and we watch his diet very carefully, he is happy as can be and is my medical alert service dog. At the time we were dealing with figuring the allergy issue out, we had no idea I had my medical condition, so service dogdom was not even a thought. I will never "put down" a dog because of cost to treat them...only when nothing can be done to relieve suffering and its the best thing for them.

Uhhm, I certainly hope this "friend" is no longer welcome at your house!!!
I think we should come up with a logo which we can put on our cars, wear on our clothes etc., you know so we can recognize each other. This would make it easy to weed out stooopid people, so we wouldn't have to waste any time on them!

When I brought my second dog Heidi home from the pound, my husband said "It's ugly, bring it back..."
To this day I can't believe it took me a few more years to get rid of him. Luckily I had my Heidi for almost 16 years!!!!

We are hugging you hug and wishing you the best with your recovery!!! Unfortunately I have no experience with this health issue.... hence no wisdom to offer.
Luckily, you have a lot of support on this site and I am sure you will find the solution to the problem soon way to go

Sending good vibes!
