Cracker if someone ever gives you the 'miracle of birth' excuse again just tell them to foster a pregnant dog from their local shelter- that way they are helping the problem instead of adding to it and can still see the miracle of birth.
I agree with Arko. I'm not even 21 anymore, and drinking isn't as 'exciting' or 'cool' as it was when I was 15-16 years old. Same with ciggarettes. It wasn't as 'cool' when I turned 18.
Another example..
When I was younger my Mom forbid me to see this one boy who was just all trouble. Her restricting me from seeing him just wanted me to see him even more!
So I don't think that making things illegal (to an extent) really works.
Poor Max, you have been a victim of sarcasm gone wrong too! BOL
I can only hope that at least some of what we said sunk in. If not, then I guess she will learn the hard way..and hopefully the pups will be healthy and taken care of.
Whoa Nelly!! I was not trying to be hornery or hurt feelings or invalidate your point or anything- I don't usually think that far ahead, and I Agree with you! Your post even made me giggle a bit, Cracker, I just had a moments introspection on the fact that many people are just not educated on so many aspects of doggie ownership, and they have to learn somehow, sometime. Hopefully she did.
**Ahem...Brinn speaking here. Ya'll gotta cut my Mom alittle slack, cuz she feels like a big dork right now. She just has this girlie thing she calls " oh crap, is it that time again?" and she tends to get all sensitive like - she cries when she sees old people walking down the street
"People who let their dogs and cats have litters in order to show their children the 'miracle of birth' should come witness the 'miracle of death' performed in the back rooms of animals shelters all over the country."

Okay, here's my story and don't laugh!! When my Rosey was about 7 she was very interested in puppies and how they are borned. There are ALOT of websites that show baby puppies bein' borned and even a few that we visited that telled all the things that can go wrong and WHY breedin' your woof isn't the best idea. We getted books from the library.
Well, we also had a really big beautiful Golden Retriever type stuffed toy. She was beautiful and almost life size. Go'ed off to Toys R us and getted her two pups that looked just like her only smaller. Then our mom used embroider floss to make them lil' umbilical cords which she attached to each pup. Then the pups were wrapped in saran wrap.
One day when Rosey was out mom Setted up the big dog in a "whelping box" with the pups hidden underneath. When Rosey comed home mom was all excited sayin' her thinked doggie in labor etc etc. She had Rosey hold the doggies head while she "delivered" the pups and handed Rosey the pups in the saran.
Okay so it wasn't exactly anatomical!! But it sufficed, was exciting and everybody understanded why we wouldn't do this with a real dog!! Also by the time her attention ran out the toys were able to sit quietly in their spot waitin' to be played with or not. No homes had to be found etc etc...
So what ever happened to my Rosey? Well, she goe'd on to adopt me, a blind one eyed special needs dog. She worked a long time as a little girl in Boston Terrier rescue, she volunteers at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary and writed materials encouragin' people to adopt elderly and special needs pets...
An interesting concept of getting licenses to breed. I'm not sure the AKC would be the best choice to regulate, although I think they could play a roll by more stringent with allowing people to register litters perhaps by requiring health and genetic testing of parents. I believe they already have different levels of registration but I thinks that's determined by the initial breeder. I could be wrong, but can't a breeder specify that eventhough a litter of pups is registered any sucessive generations can not be registered (Limited Registration - I think ).
I don't know how you would be able to legislate licensed breeding or how you would enforce it, when you can't even get people to license their dogs as required by law aleady. I know people who don't license their dog because their dog is an "inside" dog, these are usually the same people who don't get their dogs vaccinated, don't take their dogs to the vet for routine health visits, and then wonder why their dog has heartworm or some other costly or lifethreatening illness. People astound me!!
Back on the subject of licensed breeding. For it to have the desired effect it would have to be legislated in some way, Breeder Clubs like the AKC, etc. can only regulate their members' activities they don't have the authority to regulate the activities of breeders not within their membership. They're not a government agency like the ATF or the FDA. Even so, it wouldn't stop backyard breeders and puppy mills from breeding their dogs. Just like dogfighting laws haven't stopped people from participating in this dispicable "sport". I'm not saying it isn't a good idea and that it wouldn't have an impact, I just don't know how realistic it is
