broken tail

This forum is for dog lovers seeking everyday advice and suggestions on health-related issues. Remember, however, that advice on a public forum simply can't be a substitute for proper medical attention. Only your vet can say assuredly what is best for your dog.

i have a broken tail ( thanks pinky!) about an inch from the end. i have had it for a while now and it is loose from the rest of the tail, that is there is not a firm connection like the rest of my tail.
is this something my humans should be concerned about? it doesnt hurt.

I'd be worried it could get infected and make your pup septic. It wouldn't take much at all. I'd take him into the vet to see what they say but if he can't feel it I think it would be safest to get it off of there.

Exactly how long has it been like that? If it has been more than a few weeks or months, then it is probably fine. The biggest problem with broken tails is that the injury that broke the bone also damages the blood vessels and the end of the tail towards the tip starts to decay due to lack of blood supply and an then become infected. But sometimes there is a break and the blood supply damage is minimal and it heals as you described. Sounds like I wouldn't worry too much unless it is a recent injury.

Tucker's tail is broken. It was like that when I adopted him. It doesn't bother him in the least, and I think it gives him that even cuter appearance (although being a proud papa, I have to say my dog can't get any cuter).

As always, check with your vet. But for Tucker, his broken tail is fine.

Awww you poor little sweetie. I'd ask the vet his advise when you got next. If it an't broke, don't fix it! Well I guess that's not quite true in your case but you know what I meanlaugh out loud
