K9 Advantix Side Effects

This forum is for dog lovers seeking everyday advice and suggestions on health-related issues. Remember, however, that advice on a public forum simply can't be a substitute for proper medical attention. Only your vet can say assuredly what is best for your dog.

I just saw this video and thought it was appropriate for the thread. This is a dog who for 3 weeks afte k9 advantix still didn't recover from the side effects:

Yeah just one dog out of so many but I think what if it's MINE? I also think how many side effects go unseen, on a cellular but still harming level? Well the good news is alot of awareness is being made.

So true, Adam. I personally don't want to take the chance with it. Twister already has some reactions to topicals as is. (Though apparently his reactions aren't that bad compared to what I've been hearing about others.)

My Corgi also had a reaction to Advantix - the first day he was lethargic and refused to eat, and he has also been scratching his back for 4 days straight. I was worried that with Frontline ticks were still attaching and thought I would try something more effective, but after that reaction I sent all 3 unused vials back to the pharmacy for a refund.
It's really such a shame - Lyme can make the dog sick, but the supposedly more effective tick repellent makes him sick as well... So it's back to Frontline and the tick twister.

My dog is acting strange after the K9 Advanix II application - can't stop scratching. I am confused because this is her third application and there was no reaction to the first two. Biospot was toxic so I guess I'm returning to Frontline. The Dawn dish detergent bath got rid of fleas. If I could find an all natural remedy for ticks we'd be all set.

We've used Advantix Multi for the past year, the past three months she has been lethargic afterwords. Today it was really bad so I got online and read a few different sites. I washed her with Dawn and she seems to be back to her fun loving self. snoopy

I will be calling the Vet on Monday and asking for something else. My neighbor mentioned a pill he gives his pets once a month. I need to get more specifics. Any suggestions for a new flea treatment?

I gave my healthy 6yo pug first dose of advantix ii...he developed a dry cough and some itching within 2 hrs when I washed it off (first with people shampoo, later with dish liquid). 24 hrs later he looked stiff and limped and over next few hrs developed paralysis of his back legs. This persisted over 24 hrs (crumpled when tried to stand) then slowly over days recovered almost completely now 1 week later. He still cringes when I pet him over areas where I applied the Advantix. Seen by 2 vets (1 in ER) and I called Bayer and Petsmart as well as EPA NPIC (National Pesticide Information Center)1-800-858-7378. If it is as rare as they say why do I know 2 other people who had AE's and why is there so much info online? My issue is nothing about AEs on packaging, petsmart rep said perfectly safe, and Bayer rep denies causality. Is there no informed consent when it comes to pets? Even if rare, state it! I would never have applied it. I am still waiting for Bayer to send me safety data from clinical trials (rep couldn't tell me any number/percent with this AE and stated not systemically absorbed??). What happens to post-marketing adverse event reports? Are AE's more common in breeds like pugs? (seems more reports online with pugs???)

I have been using it on my dogs for for a couple years and have never had a problem. It actually is the best thing I found for ticks.
