My Ears Stink

This forum is for dog lovers seeking everyday advice and suggestions on health-related issues. Remember, however, that advice on a public forum simply can't be a substitute for proper medical attention. Only your vet can say assuredly what is best for your dog.

I am on a good food right now (TOTW) have been on a Blue before, but mom found I have an ear infection today, this is my 2nd in about 6 months. Mom is thinking she may switch me to a more limited ingredient diet next. Not sure...I also have allergies and hypothyroidism. If a dog has a recurring or chronic ear infections, there is generally and underlying cause such as allergies (environmental or food) or Hypothyroidism. Those are the 2 biggest causes of ear infections, there are other things that can cause them as well. I have an ear cleaner that mom usually uses 1-2x a week, but when infected I get twice a day then an ointment in my ears twice a day, they have usually cleared up in about a week.

I didn't read all the posts only the first couple so if this has already been said I'm sorry to repeat but:

DO NOT USE OLIVE OIL IN YOUR DOGS EARS!!!!
When you have an infection you are trying to dry the ears out to stop the infection, the oil will only promote bacteria growth. Expensive Ear cleaners are not necessary. Use White Vinegar, will clear up any ear infection including yeast infections. Works with womans yeast infections too. Vinegar is holistic and safe and does not contain steriods as many of the ear cleaners do. Antibiotics are usually not required unless there is a thickening of the ear. Vinegar generally shows dramatic improvement within 72 hours with 3 or 4 cleanings a day.

DO NOT USE COTTON BALLS IN YOUR DOGS EARS!!!!
Cottonballs leave behind bits of cotton on the skin while dragged through the ear, this promotes growth of bacteria. Use only paper towels. Kleenex also leaves dust particles from the tissue behind promoting growth of bacteria. Under a bright light shake a tissue, then shake a paper towel and see for yourself how much loose particles come off each.

Ahhh yes the lovely Otitis Externa... Could be food allergies, thyroid, or more than likely seasonal allergies (inhalent).
