Hello, we are new to this site...I discovered it when I was doing research for Isabelle, my 5 year old dachshund. I decided to get a profile since it seems there is a ton of people on here who are experiencing the same problems we are. Anyway...Isabelle is in the hospital recovering from her back surgery. We just got back from visiting her and she looked pathetic. Can someone please help me out and tell me what I can expect over the next couple of days. She is now at 24 hours post operation, she was pretty drugged up and had a HUGE incision straight down her back. I am very confident in her neurosurgen but I don't want to keep bugging her with questions so I will take whatever info you can give me . Thank you !

We have two doxies who have both had some spasms. One even lost use of her back legs, but then after medications she was feeling much better the next day. We're hoping that they were only a one time thing. We're so sorry that this happened to you little one. I've read though that the surgery has a very high recovery rate which is fantastic. We are sending wishes your way, and hope for a speedy and perminent recovery. I'm sure your surgeon knows how worried you are and would be happy to answer and questions you have. I'm a worry wart of a mom too, and take my little pups in for anything. Our vet knows this and is always willing to help. Better safe then sorry. Don't worry about bugging her, you just worry about taking care of the patient and yourself too. Good luck and we hope you get better soon.

Thank you for the support...Our little Isabelle is home! She is recovering well but, walks like she has had a few drinks! We have been doing physical therapy two times a day along with stretching. I know she is feeling better because she has started begging for food again!!! She still seems really weak in her legs but she manages to get into a standing position after about 2-3 good efforts...it doesn't last long as she will quickly lose her balance and fall to a sitting position! I don't think we are out of the woods yet but the trees are getting smaller!

I had surgery four days ago...The Dr sent me home the day after cause I was doing so well. I have gone to the toilet on my own and can stand up a little and take a few wonky steps. I guess it is just hard to know what kind of progress I should be making.........I have cried out in pain tonight when moved and my mum and dad are a bit worried....anyone help me with some words of reassurance? please? There has been no other crying out at all....good luck to you other cute babies who are recovering form surgery. x

Thank you everyone for the wonderful wishes. Mommy is still worried about me. Has anyone who has been through this experience had a doggie who became paralayzed before surgery? If so, did they regain mobility after? That is my mommy's concern right now. Dr. said i have lost sensation in my left leg but it could be that the pain meds are just doing their job, or that the dr. check me so often, i'm just getting use to it, or they aren't applying enough pressure. But the Dr. also said there is a 75% of me regaining my mobility back even though it might take a long while. Any words of reassurance would be wonderful, as well as advice. Thank You everyone!
